It could be called the first murder mystery in human history: Who killed the man now nicknamed “Otzi,” an Eneolithic Alps dweller whose exceptionally well-preserved mummy was found in a glacier on the Italo-Austrian border in 1991 but who died around 3,200 Bce, probably from an arrow wound and/or a blow to the head? German writer-director Felix Randau (Northern Star) imagines a possible answer to the whodunit aspect of the story but this is only the end point of what is basically a visceral thrill ride through the Alpine Copper Age, as the fortysomething Otzi is reimagined as a man...

In a personal essay written for the U.K.'s Love Magazine, posted Monday evening, Sporty Spice (a.k.a. Melanie Chisholm, a.k.a. Mel C) reveals she definitely won't be joining her former bandmates Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice), Melanie Brown (Scary Spice), Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice), and Emma Bunton (Baby Spice) for a performative get-together any time soon. Chisholm's piece begins as the 42-year-old muses on the ever-changing dynamic of fame in the music industry.

Cliffhangers are as constant as the Northern Star on television. It’s not really a surprise – they offer writers an extremely effective way of keeping their audience captivated. If you’ve seen your favourite character forced into a seemingly-impossible situation come episode close, you’re going to want to see how it turns out. After all, the usual rule is that protagonists don’t tend to die no matter the odds.
So when a scriptwriter puts a character on the chopping block, you’re naturally intrigued. Unless the show’s Spooks – at which point you accept it as a natural development and debate how exactly that poor unfortunate soul is going to bite the dust – hinting at a character’s imminent demise is big news, and treated as such by the writers and the audience. Even when the character sucks, their departure’s guaranteed to make waves on the show.

Previous | Image 1 of 13 | NextSorry, kids. Mommy needs her nicotine, Courtney Love said during this shot on July 18, 2013 at the House of Blues Chicago.
Chicago – From Courtney Love’s first words hitting the stage at her sold-out July 18, 2013 show at the House of Blues Chicago – with a cigarette dangling defiantly from her lips – it was apparent the 1990s grunge queen was back and still all about breaking the rules.
While her four-time, Grammy-nominated band Hole may have been recently declared deceased, the 49-year-old proved once again that she is the consummate survivor.
Only two songs into the set, Courtney called a center-stage huddle to break free from even her own set list. Then she dove into an impromptu and rarely preformed smoldering version of Fleetwood Mac’s “Gold Dust Woman”.
At a time when musical performances have often devolved into either lip-synched backtracking, auto-tuned whiteout or soulless vocal histrionics, Courtney Love still flips the bird,...

Any movie fan worth their salt can usually tell going in which actor will put on a good performance. It may sound like a slight over-exaggeration, but we’re experienced enough to know what we’re going to get – Daniel Day-Lewis will chew scenery in ridiculous ways, Samuel L. Jackson will be reliably awesome and Rob Schneider will be terrible… just terrible. Some things are as constant as the Northern Star, and experienced Hollywood-watchers will be able to spot the filmic turkeys way before they hit the big screen.
However, a movie does occasionally surprise even the most jaded film-watcher, as an actor we would have expected nothing from – or sometimes, even less – gazumps with a tour de force. Whether they’re known for terrible films, they’re stepping into the shoes of a cursed character or we simply know nothing about them, sometimes actors can turn the tables in the most spectacular of ways.

'This is totally amateur and I don't care,' Courtney Love said from the stage at the South by Southwest festival.

Austin, Texas — "Hi. I'm Patrick."
That's how Patrick Stump, former Fall Out Boy frontman/ current poster boy for portion-control dieting (I mean, have you seen the dude lately?) kicked off his solo career, one song into his much-discussed South by Southwest set. It was a brief, seemingly needless introduction — everyone was here to see him, after all — yet it was somewhat fitting too. He's always been a man of few words.
It was one of the few times he actually spoke to the audience at Austin's dive-licious Dirty Dog Bar, preferring instead to let his new music do the talking for him. And for the most part, that music didn't let him down.
