Toronto -- Rosanna Arquette is to topline "The Signs of Living," a Canadian indie movie from Breakthrough Films and Television and producer/director Gail Harvey.
The news comes two years after veteran TV producer Breakthrough launched a movie production arm, with former PolyGram Filmed Entertainment and Norstar Filmed Entertainment executive Marina Cordoni in charge as executive producer.
In "The Signs of Living," Arquette is to play an inspirational TV show host and girlfriend of an aging rock star who's hit emotional rock bottom.
Production on the $2 million feature, based on a script by Divana Ippoliti, is set for spring 2011. No word on additional casting.
Cordoni will shop the Arquette-starring drama at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival with an eye to securing U.S. and European presales.

Matt Stone and Trey Parker have joined up with the team behind Canadian series Kenny vs. Spenny to produce new episodes of the comedy-reality series for Comedy Central.
The network has licensed 10 new episodes of the show, in which childhood friends and series co-creators Kenny Hotz and <N Spencer Rice battle each other in outrageous competitions, and also has acquired 10 episodes from the show's library. The series is set to premiere Nov. 14.
Stone told The Hollywood Reporter that he and Parker became fans of the series after Kyle McCulloch, a producer on their Comedy Central show South Park, introduced them to an episode in which the duo competed to see who could stay up the longest without sleep. Stone said the episode really hit home.
"It was right after we finished 'Team America' in a six-day marathon," he said. "It was the worst time of my whole life. The physical torment that they put their bodies through touched us. It was just so funny but also realistic and raw."
After randomly running into Rice at LAX and introducing themselves -- "He was freaked out because he thought nobody would recognize him in America," Stone said -- Stone and Parker developed a friendship with Hotz and Rice and offered to help them get the show on the air in the U.S.

Game Show Network unveiled its new abbreviated brand name, GSN, at the Television Critics Assn. press tour in Hollywood. The title switch, announced Friday, reflects the cable network's interest in branching out beyond game shows, which will still remain a staple at the network. "There's a lot more to games than game shows," GSN president Rich Cronin said. The network will make the change in March, ushered in by a campaign worth about $5 million -- the biggest marketing effort in its nine-year history. The network also announced the syndicated acquisition of the ABC reality series The Mole and Celebrity Mole Hawaii and NBC's Spy TV, all of which will join the network in March. Among the new programming GSN unveiled was a new hidden-camera series, Vegas Weddings Unveiled, and Kenny vs. Spenny, described as a comedy-reality series that plays on the rivalry between two close friends.
