terrible

How they ever managed to come up with 2 main characters you so utterly dislike is beyond me. One a lying bastard, the other "hero" a psychopathic maniac. Love is portrayed as something you have for you alone, the other partner just has to go along with your feelings, and characters overall are badly portrayed.

Don't fall into the "eastern answer to gladiator" bs on the cover either... The one is an epic tale of getting back your honour, this movie throws honour overboard, along with love, humanity and common sense, just to get what you want. Ow yeah, and the special effects and acting sucked as well.

Good for people who are open to understanding other cultures

Overall this was a good movie. If you are open to understanding other cultures and their history then you may enjoy this movie. This movie is based on a Thai folktale. This folktale is important because the original text contains some details about life of the common Thai people during the 18th and 19th centuries. It has many lessons of life that can be learned if you are willing to pay attention to it. The characters are real with real human flaws. It is not an idealized version of a perfect hero. It shows you the consequences of making bad decisions. You can also see the many flaws of human nature such as greed, pride, lust, wrath and envy. It would help you if you researched the folktale before or after you watch the movie. The folktale is about "Khun Chang, Khun Pan". I hope you enjoy the movie.
