I was waiting for a funny ending, but it stayed dramatic

"Der Tag der Befreiung" or "Liberation Day" is a German 15-minute short film from 2003. The director is Martin Blankemeyer and the writer is Martin Östreicher and even if more than a decade has passed since then, this film here is still among the most known works from the duo. And same can be said about the actors. I have seen Schaad in another film recently, but I cannot say that I am familiar with him at all apart from that. However, the one known cast member here is probably former porn actress Michaela Schaffrath because of her presence in German media, at least back then. Here she plays the nurse of a retirement home and this is also where all the action takes place. We see one inmate who gets constantly humiliated by another because the evil one knows that the good one is secretly hiding a dog in there and he threatens to tell on him if he doesn't obey the tyrant's commands all the time. But it's not the nurse, but another inmate who realizes what is going on and things take a dramatic turn at the very end. I must say I did not like the ending that much as it is a bit too extreme and craving for attention and does not fit too well with the previous over 10 minutes, but it's also not so bad to destroy the viewing experience and after all it is all subjective. Maybe you will like the ending more than I did. All in all, it was a solid watch with decent acting from the two protagonists. Go check it out if you want.
