Some parts were filmed in N.C. but the scenes where you see the cabins, the main house where dinner was served, some mountain scenes, etc... were all filmed in Pembroke, VA at Mountain Lake Retreat and Hotel. Its near the campus of Virginia Tech in southwestern VA. The buildings all look the same as they did in the movie over 20 years ago, but as with most movies, the surrounding scenery will not look familiar because most of the lake scenes were from a separate location in NC. But, nonetheless, the buildings are fun to see and its a quaint little getaway. You'll spot it immediately and remember the scene from Dirty Dancing.

After watching this, it surprised me to learn the movie was filmed just a short distance from me in North Carolina. I never knew Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey really didn't get along, the chemistry on screen did not let on. The rainy scenes was actual weather conditions that they endured during the filming. As most of us southerners know, the weather in this area is fickle. They had to deal with temperature extremes, from "seeing your breath" cold, to "pass out" hot. And the Carolinas are infamous for their bugs (mosquitos)which bit cast and crew alike. Also it informed me that Cynthia Rhodes is married to Richard Marks, who is one of my favorite singers from the 80's, and is a full time mother now.

THIS IS THE BEST FILM OF ALL TIME!!!!!! i have watched it over 50 times in the last year and all my friends love it! when we go round each-others' houses we just have do watch it and copy the dance at the end!!! every girl has to watch this film!even my 8 yr old sister loves it! i don't believe that Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze didn't get on during filming because they certainly didn't show it on screen. well done to all the cast and crew who made this a wonderful film! I'm watching the film as I'm writing this! people will still be taking about this film in a couple of hundred years time! if there is anyone out there who hasn't seen the film you MUST borrow or rent it NOW! you don't no what you are missing out on
