Florence Ricard had been nursing, husband Alexander, a violent man who drank himself to death. When he dies she inherits £40,000. Her parents disapprove of her friend Dr. Gully. Charles Bravo breezes into her life asks to marry her.
Florence marries Charles Bravo and demands she give him all her money and clothes. He also wants companion Mrs Cox sent away. The pair's relationship deteriorates then he is taken ill. The doctor believes Bravo has been poisoned to death.
At the inquest into the death Charles Bravo begins. The coroner asks about the death of Florence's first husband and about the sexual relationship with Dr. Gully. The jury bring back a verdict murder but no blame but offers no evidence.
