So over the weekend, a bunch of celebs got together at the Hollywood Bowl to pay homage to Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory in a live concert. Willy Wonka, like many things, terrified me in my youth but inspired me in my older years. Gene Wilder was absolutely magnificent in the original, but, the actors and celebs that got together this weekend were pretty great too.
John Stamos, Weird Al, and Finn Wolfhard are just a few of the actors who were in attendance and performing on stage. They performed musical numbers from the original classic with John Stamos singing "Pure Imagination" while Weird Al sang the Oompa Loompa songs while completely decked in orange skin and green hair. If it sounds pretty cool, that's because it was.
Obviously, not all of us could have been there, so luckily there are people who recorded parts of it and posted it online.

Steven Spielberg’s latest movie is sure to be a hit with geeks and pop culture lovers everywhere. Based on the best-selling 2011 novel by Ernest Cline, Ready Player One takes place in the dystopian future of 2046 in which the globe’s bloated population spend all their time in the Oasis – a vast virtual reality filled with various characters and settings from famous movies, TV shows, video games and more.
Courtesy of the latest issue of Empire, we now have a new look at the movie. Instead of a glimpse at the universe of the Oasis, though, it showcases the real-world characters. As you can see below, we have Tye Sheridan (X-Men: Apocalypse) as protagonist Wade Watts, known as Parvizal in the Oasis, and Olivia Cooke as his fellow gamer and love interest Samantha Evelyn Cook Aka Art3mis. This is one of the biggest trailers to come out of San Diego Comic Con this year. And our first steps into the world of Oasis and Ernest Cline’s pop-culture heavy Ready Player One is an assault on the senses.
Tye Sheridan stars alongside Olivia Cooke, Ben Mendelsohn, Mark Rylance, Simon Pegg and T. J. Miller in the much hyped return of Steven Spielberg to the world of sci-fi. Personally I still his Kubrick-inspired A.I. is a much misunderstood film and far better than its reputation suggests. His War of the Worlds is one of the very best sci-fi films of the post 9/11 generation and we’ve never strayed too far from those Close Encounters we enjoyed almost 40 years ago.
This new film seems perfect for Spielberg, not least because he is the embodiment of a 80s pop culture Gandalf. Embedded in this trailer are dozens...

If you have a theater fan in your life who has been extra hyped these days, it’s likely because the 2017 Tony Awards are nearly here.
The Antoinette Perry Awards for Excellence in Theatre (as the Tonys are officially known) recognize the highest honor in U.S. theater — the equivalent of television’s Emmys or the film industry’s Oscars.
With no Hamilton-sized hit this year, the race in the top categories has been pretty wide open and hard to predict — with only Bette Midler’s turn in the revival of Hello, Dolly! a lock for the best actress in a musical prize.

Need to find a bit of movie happiness? Here are 25 films that might just do the trick...
Let's face it, we could all probably do with a little bit of cheering up right about now. Times are scary and times are tough, so it's perfectly natural to look for some kind of reassurance that everything will indeed be all right in the end.
Film is perhaps one of the most powerful and effective tools in doing this. It can be a transportative experience, an escape from reality, and, most importantly, it can act as a reminder of all that is good in the world.
With that in mind, here’s a list of 25 movies that are almost-guaranteed to make you smile and restore your faith in humanity...

Chris Martin gave guests the golden ticket of a lifetime on Friday, when he threw himself a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory-themed party to celebrate his 40th birthday.
The Coldplay singer, who hit the milestone age on Thursday, transformed his Malibu home into something Willy Wonka would be proud of — complete with a large marquee erected in his back garden, giant toadstools and lollypops set up around the grounds, and a “Pure Imagination” sign.
There were even napkins that read “Chris’ 40th” — designed to mimic the font used in the 1971 film adaptation of Roald Dahl classic.

Christian Borle, the original William Shakespeare in Broadway’s Something Rotten!, and three-time Tony Award-winning director Jack O’Brien have spent 45 minutes on the second day of rehearsals for the upcoming Charlie and the Chocolate Factory musical debating a very serious question: Should Borle, who is portraying Willy Wonka, do a somersault?
The question is a serious one for the two, who, like fans, have a long history with the popular 1964 novel by Roald Dahl, which was adapted for the screen in 1971 as Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, with the late Gene Wilder taking on the iconic title role. In the film, he famously somersaulted across the screen. “Everyone has some familiarity with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” Borle tells Et by phone after his discussion with O’Brien about the production striking a balance with people’s expectations for the show. “There are certain things people are craving to see, but we also...

Monday's Halloween-themed Dancing With the Stars had its fair share of happy tears when Olympic gymnast Laurie Hernandez and her partner, Val Chmerkovskiy, took the stage.
In the pre-taped package, DWTS fans saw something rarely witnessed in the show's history: Chmerkovskiy getting choked up with emotion.
After getting a perfect score in the fourth week, Team Valaur has been struggling for the past few weeks, getting good-but-not-great scores, and the 30-year-old dancer lays a lot of the blame on himself.
"My whole life is focused around making sure that she shines every Monday," Chmerkovskiy said, getting teary-eyed in a solo interview. "Is my creativity good enough? Is my choreography good enough? Because her dancing is definitely good enough."

Of the many memorable characters created by the late Gene Wilder, his titular role in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory carries a specific magical weight - particularly for those who acted alongside him, like former child actress Denise Nickerson (aka Violet Beauregarde). "He created an iconic character," Nickerson tells People of being in the film with Wilder, who died of complications from Alzheimer's at the age of 83. "He did the majority of that himself, his little idiosyncrasies [in character], kicking the ball, whipping the cane, stuff like that, that was all him." Los Angeles – The genius comedy of Gene Wilder was often in the subtlety. With a slow burn or a raised eyebrow, Wilder was able to draw big laughs. The star of “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory” and “Young Frankenstein” died in Stamford, Connecticut, according to his nephew in Los Angeles. He was 83.
Wilder was well into his thirties before the first big break came along in 1967, in the classic film “Bonnie and Clyde.” From there he was able to trade in his frizzy-haired persona in his co-starring role in Mel Brook’s “The Producers” (1968). It was his collaboration with Brooks that certified his legacy, with one-two punch of “Blazing Saddles” and “Young Frankenstein” in 1974. He was also held in high regard by a generation of children with his classic turn as the title character in “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory” (1971).

Everyone's got a favorite Gene Wilder performance: to younger viewers, he's a fondly remembered face in childhood favorites like Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory; to an older filmgoers, he was a brilliantly bawdy performer who owned comedy in the Seventies. At any age, however, he was one of those impossible-to-dislike actors whose very presence had a way of lifting up a film.
Most actors consider it a privilege to land one all-time classic role over the course of their career — Wilder had more than can be counted on one hand.

Each year, the Library of Congress selects 25 films to be named to the National Film Registry, a proclamation of commitment to preserving the chosen pictures for all time. They can be big studio pictures or experimental short films, goofball comedies or poetic meditations on life. The National Film Registery "showcases the extraordinary diversity of America’s film heritage and the disparate strands making it so vibrant" and by preserving the films, the Library of Congress hopes to "a crucial element of American creativity, culture and history.” This year’s selections span the period 1913 to 2004 and include a number of films you’re familiar with. Spanning the years 1913-2004, the 25 films to be added to the Library of Congress’ National Film Registry for 2014 include Steven Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan, Roman Polanski’s Rosemary’s Baby, Arthur Penn’s Little Big Man, John Hughes’ Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and the Coen brothers’ The Big Lebowski. The annual selection helps to ensure that the movies will be preserved for all time. This year’s list brings the number of films in the registry to 650.
Also on the list are John Lasseter’s 1986 animated film, Luxo Jr; the original Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory with Gene Wilder; and Howard Hawks’ classic 1959 Western Rio Bravo. Documentaries and silent films also make up part of the selection which represents titles that are “culturally, historically or aesthetically” significant; they must also each be at least 10 years old. Part of the list provides a few Best Picture nominees, a number of Oscar winners, and a childhood favorite that still pops up now and again. In reality, this list could be half-full of music documentaries, but for that reason, I stayed away from them. Plus, I did my best to include only films that really are musicals in every sense of the word. Plenty of films have lots of musical components, but only true musicals have performances in the film that truly drive the story forward. The songs in movie musicals have a purpose, if there could be a true definition.

Frank Ocean has responded to his legal issues with Chipotle by posting a check for $212,500 — the amount the fast food chain paid him for an ad campaign — to Tumblr with "F*ck off" written in the memo section. Check out the post here. In July 2013, Ocean signed on to record a song for Chipotle for $425,000, with half paid up front. The singer said, via his a letter sent to Chipotle by his legal team, that he backed out because he felt misled about the intentions of the campaign: "When Frank was asked to participate in this project, Chipotle's representatives told him that the thrust of the campaign was to promote responsible farming. There was no Chipotle reference or logo in the initial presentation, and Chipotle told Frank that was an intentional element of the campaign," the letter said. Last week, Chipotle filed a lawsuit against Ocean for not delivering the...

He’s one of the hottest recording artists in the industry, and Frank Ocean isn’t willing to take flak from anybody, including fast food Mexican chain Chipotle.
After the jumbo burrito purveyor filed a lawsuit against Ocean, alleging they’d paid him $215,000 to use “Pure Imagination” in their ad only to have him pull out at the last minute, the “Thinkin Bout You” crooner responded with a cashier’s check.
Frank’s legal team told the Los Angeles Superior Court, "When Frank was asked to participate in this project, Chipotle's representatives told him that the thrust of the campaign was to promote responsible farming. There was no Chipotle reference or logo in the initial presentation, and Chipotle told Frank that was an intentional element of the campaign. Frank was also promised that he'd have the right to approve the master and all advertising."

Frank Ocean may have gotten Chipotle off his back, thanks to a newly-signed check -- complete with a strongly-worded memo. The Mexican food restaurant first sued the musician on Friday, saying it paid Ocean an advance of $212,500 in July 2013 to record a song called "Pure Imagination" for a marketing campaign named the Scarecrow, created to promote local and sustainably-sourced food while warning of the dangers of industrial farming. However, Ocean backed out without recording the song because he didn't want the company's logo to appear at the end of the film. Audio: Jay Z, Daft

Frank Ocean just paid up $212,500 in a cashier’s check to Chipotle, writing “F--- Off” on the memo line.
Why was Ocean paying over 200K to the burrito chain? Chipotle was suing Ocean, born Christopher Breaux, for backing out of an ad campaign for which they had paid him $212,500 upfront. Ocean was supposed to record a song for a Chipotle commercial, but bailed when he learned that the company would have its logo in the spot, reported TMZ.
Ocean took to his Tumblr on Tuesday to share a picture of the now infamous check. Chipotle has responded to the photograph of the check, simply saying, “Thanks, Frank.”
Ocean stood to acquire a total of $425,000 if he’d recorded “Pure Imagination” from Willy Wonka for Chipotle's animated commercial titled "The Scarecrow." Instead, the gig went to singer-songwriter Fiona Apple.

Remember that "Pure Imagination" cover Fiona Apple did for Chipotle? According to the company, Frank Ocean signed up to do one, too — to the tune of $212,500 up front (and another $212,500 after he was finished). When Ocean decided against it (he claimed they promised he was promoting "responsible farming," not the Chipotle brand directly, and that he would have "full approval" of the master), the restaurant chain sued him for the advance plus any legal fees. Not one to let matters lie, Frank just posted the payback check on his Tumblr with the memo: "Fuck Off" — in case it was at all unclear how he felt about the legal dispute. That's not to say Frank's done with brands altogether. Just this morning, Ocean dropped a song with Diplo, Mick Jones, and Paul Simonon that is featured on a Converse compilation album.

Scott Bakula loved his scene in the bathhouse on Looking. He got a chance to catch up on something he felt he’d missed. “This was as close as I’d ever gotten to a real bathhouse. Just hearing about it in my old days in New York in the mid-‘70s, you know that was a huge deal. That’s where Bette Midler started and that whole scene! My gay friends would be off to Sunday Tea, and then roll in at 9 the next morning after the bathhouse. But that was about as close as I ever got. But I thought this was a great scene, a great way to introduce the character. I love what that scene was about. But no, I wasn’t shocked. In terms of having my clothes off,...

In the perfect culmination to a flawless award season, red carpet darling Lupita Nyong'o brought a number of Hollywood A-listers to tears as she accepted her Oscar for Best Supporting Actress at the 86th Academy Awards.
From the look of unabashed joy on her face as she won to "Pure Imagination" playing as she walked off the stage after an eloquent, inspirational speech, it was the epitome of an Oscar moment.
But first she had to get to the stage, which took a while because pretty much every star wanted to hug her as she walked up the aisle (and who could blame them?). Once she got there, her mouth agape, she delivered another classy speech -- a speech that brought "12 Years a Slave" director Steve McQueen, costar Benedict Cumberbatch and Channing Tatum (and probably you) to tears. Read the full speech below:
"Thank you to the Academy for this incredible recognition.

After months of hype, Sam Mendes’ trumpeted return to the West End is finally open to the public. Tackling a much-loved children’s literary classic, fully ingrained in popular culture (it’s already been the subject of two big screen adaptations) must have been a challenging proposition for the Skyfall director. Unsurprisingly, he pulls it off with genuine aplomb, and like the great Wonka’s otherworldly display of confectionery delights, there’s more than enough here to entice, astonish and enchant those of all ages.
As to be expected from a Mendes production, this is a slick-looking affair. The integration of art direction and visual content is superb, and an intro extolling the beauty of chocolate is credited to one Quentin Blake – a nice nod to the Roald Dahl legacy. While the production sticks largely to the book, there are some obvious contemporary changes worked in, although that subversive Dahl edge is still intact.

Director Mel Stuart's family tells the AP that Stuart has died of cancer in his Los Angeles home at the age of 83. Stuart was an award-winning documentary filmmaker, including films "The Making of the President," an "American Masters" piece on director Billy Wilder and groundbreaking film "Wattstax," which focused on the Los Angeles community of Watts in the wake of the 1965 riots and 1972 music festival.
Stuart did not film many feature films, but two of his are quite famous. His 1969 Golde Globe-nominated romantic comedy "If It's Tuesday, This Must Be Belgium" stars Ian McShane ("Deadwood") as a British tour guide who takes a group of Americans on an 18-day tour of Europe and along the way has an affair with one of his clients, played by Suzanne Pleshette.
