Olf-fashioned advertisement graphics artist Philip Fielder finally has a shot at promotion to creative director in JD's firm if he beats modern rival Lou in the race for Texan major client fast-food chain Taco Bob. The last weekend before their presentation, Philip's sister, a single artist, dumps on him without warning her mildly autistic son Zach (8) and dies in a crash shortly after. Philip and his beloved dog bond with the bothersome rascal, but lacking parenting experience and finding the rare available help inadequate, Philip is inclined to pass guardianship to his aunt, who raises three boisterous boys on a farm.
