Leading up to the series finale of Shameless, many fans wondered whether Emmy Rossum's Fiona Gallagher would return for the show's eleventh season. While there had been plans for Rossum - who originally left the show after season nine - to return, scheduling conflicts due to Covid-19 ultimately proved too difficult to overcome.
"We were trying to get Emmy - and Emmy wanted to come back. We caught it at the wrong moment. We wanted her to return and had some storylines about her coming back and she wanted to do it," showrunner John Wells told The Hollywood Reporter. "It was impossible to figure out how to get her back. That was the biggest disappointment: not being able to make that work out because we all wanted it to happen. A very minor but sad result of everything that's happened in the pandemic."
As for what Fiona's storyline would've been during the final season,...

It isn’t easy maintaining your innocence when everyone around you seems keen on making your life a living hell. For Ben Crawford, keeping himself in check is only getting harder as Secrets and Lies unravels.
According to Detective Cornell, 75 percent of all child killers insert themselves into the investigation — and if she’s right, Ben isn’t doing any favors for his public image. Even worse, the missing flashlight used in the murder turned up in Ben’s truck on Sunday’s episode, bloodied from repeated blows to Tom’s skull, and Scott’s no longer a person of interest.

He's the tabloid whipping boy turned angel of vengeance; the TV comedian who's gone serious with his new film Philomena. At 48, Steve Coogan's career is going full tilt. So why does he have a massive chip on his shoulder, with 'mushy peas and a boat of gravy on the side'? Xan Brooks finds out
One rainy Friday in October, Steve Coogan takes a trip from the Lake District to an expensive part of London. He rolls into town a man in transit, still half-dressed for the country with a yellow tweed cap pulled down round his ears. The car ferries us through sodden streets to a private members club, where a table is booked in an upstairs room. But the hostess is stricken; the place has standards. She won't let him in until he takes off the cap.
It's fitting that Coogan doesn't pass for clubhouse material. His...

The latest installment of "Blood, Lies and Alibis" told the story of one of the most elaborate insurance fraud cases ever seen -- a case the La Times said was like an Aaron Spelling drama. Ohio business partners Gene Hanson and John Hawkins faked Hanson's death to collect a $1 million insurance policy in the late 1980s.
They brought in a third man to help them sell their story. Dr. Richard Boggs killed an innocent man by making it look like he had a heart attack in Boggs' office. They then passed him off as Hanson to the coroner, who bought the story.
Both Hawkins and Hanson took on new identities, with Hanson even getting reconstructive surgery to change his appearance.
One investigator said, "This case has been described ... as almost the perfect crime." But authorities wouldn't let it go, and eventually found a lead. A paper trail of phone records,...

ABC is staying in business with "The Unusuals" creator Noah Hawley, who has inked a blind deal with sister ABC Studios to write two new projects.
Not too bad, given that TV writing is Hawley's fourth career choice.
First off, the New York native joined a rock band as a singer-guitarist and did a series of gigs on the East Coast. "I was gonna be a rock star but got tired of living in a van with three filthy, penniless men," he said.
Disillusioned with the music business, where success has "so little to do with the quality of the music," Hawley, who was also the band's songwriter, decided he wanted to write more in-depth stories.
So he switched to books, publishing his first novel, "A Conspiracy of Tall Men," in 1997. That was followed by two more, "Other People's Weddings" in 2003 and "The Punch" in 2007.
