Thoughtful with good acting
fxthecat10 December 2004
Farland is a movie that gives you something to think about. It develops quite slowly and it seems to be depressing but there is hope for every character. It's true, there is not much action but I think the movie works quite well. Laura Tonke really did a nice job and it's a pleasure to watch here in her role. Sure it is not a movie for everybody but it is one for those who are able to enjoy 'slow' movies with good acting and a thoughtful story . To see Daniel Brühl as a police man was kind of a strange role for him but as a guy in love with his ex girlfriend, trying to get her back fits quite well. (Similar to his role in 'Nichts Bereuen' another really good movie with D.B.,which unfortunately, like Farland wasn't very famous so only few people saw it.

A typical German movie!

Farland - is a typical German movie. Just boring! The actors stand at the location like sculptures. Most of the time they does not say anything and if they say something then they speak "significant" sentences which are only stupid. No normal person, and the try to play "normal" persons in this movie , would talk this way!! The biggest disappointment is Daniel Brühl (Good Bye, Lenin!). The question is, why he is playing at this movie? His character, like all the characters, does not have any substance. At the close ups you see the faces which should show the "hurt souls" of the characters!! This movie is the best example for the uninspired major movie industry.
