As you know I've played this game Quest for Glory 1 for the PC. It was a fun game, originally this game was called "Hero's Quest 1: So you want to be a Hero" but due to a trademark lawsuit, the title was censored and is now called "Quest for Glory 1: So you want to be a Hero." This was a great point and click adventure game with fixed encounter battles, it plays like King's Quest, only this time your player gets to fight. Now on to what I liked about this game.

The good things about this classic RPG game.

First of all I liked the main menu where you can choose 3 different jobs, A Fighter my favorite to use in the game and he can slaughter enemies very easily with the sword and defeat the fencer, A magic user though it makes hand to hand combat very hard, I did like the mini game Erasmus Maze, A thief though it makes hand to hand combat very hard, it's hard to sneak in 2 houses at night stealing items but you get a lot of money for selling it. You also get to play a mini game throwing knives at the target board. You get to choose how many status points you can give to your character including Strength, Speed, Defense, Climbing, Throwing, Stealth, Picking Locks, Dodging, HPs, MPs, Stamina and so on.

You start off in the town of Spielburg, you introduce yourself to the sheriff smoking a tobacco pipe and his Giant assistant Otto. You then go to the Guild to sign your name. You are the hero Baba Yaga has cursed the land, the king Barons son and daughter are kidnapped you have to go save them.

You get to do so many side quests in this game including getting the healers ring. Free the fox from the trap, feed the frost giant, stay at the inn talking to a merchant who was robbed, meet the wizard Erasmus and his pet rat and gargoyle statue. Talk to a magic user in the store, Meet the hermit at the waterfall cave. Clean the stables, fight with a sword fencer, gather mushrooms, dance with faeries, meet the thieves at night and at the hideout, talk to meep creatures, talk to Dryad tree, get ingredients for healing potions and so on. You can fight Goblins and Soldiers for money. Buying supplies for this game, helping a homeless man by giving him money. Finding a secret passage in the mountains. Climb trees and walls, cast magic spells, throw rocks and daggers.

The day can go into nighttime so be careful you don't get ambushed by dinosaur, centaur, troll monsters who can easily kill you if you're not strong enough. I liked the part where you can go to the goblins hideout and fight goblins to get money. You can fight the Ogre, Kobold the wizard and free the bear who transforms back into a human turns out to be the Barons son, you can be introduced to the Baron king who sends you to save his daughter at the Brigands Hideout. The Minotaur can be be a challenge to kill if you're not careful. You have to dodge the traps and archers, you have to bar the doors and knock down 3 men. Then you have to walk through Yoricks tricky fun house maze and dodge his things he throws at you or you can talk to him. You need the Dispel Potion to break the enchantment on the daughter of Baron. Afterwards you get a special ending to the game.

The bad things about this classic RPG game.

First of all if you don't have enough strength or defense some of the stronger monsters will ambush you and could easily kill you. Also you cannot forget the undead unguent potion because if you do and you take on the Baba Yaga quest you won't be able to get the mandrake root and you'll be turned into a frog for life in the game over message.

Speaking of which, there are many ways to die or lose, including getting turned into frog and getting eaten by Baba Yaga the witch, getting turned into a Stag or turned into Spira plant. You can also get killed in battle, shot by archers, fall into a pit, get crushed to death, Bruno can kill you with knives which gives you a game over message. At the Brigands fort you can lose in may ways and you have to deal with Yoricks maze which is tricky as the doors open on a timer. If you make certain bad choices your game will end on a game over message. You can die from one of the burning alcohol drinks, if you forget the dispel potion you can't save the Barons daughter.

Also it's hard to track down Bruno and Brutus who gives the secret password to the secret passage in the mountain, Bruno can't be killed and will kill the player with his dagger.

Overall this is a fun game to play, if you have a Windows XP computer and the Quest for Glory collection, install the games and you'll get to play this game. I was surprised at the word "Jackass" used in the game which slipped past the PC censorship at the time. This was made before the ESRB rating system came along for PC games. You can also buy the PC download Quest for Glory Collection at gog website or Steam for your Windows 7, 8 10 computer. Also if you win the game, you get a sneak preview of Quest for Glory 2, it was Originally going to be called Hero's Quest 2: Trial by fire but due to a trademark lawsuit, it became Quest for Glory 2: Trial by fire.
