PARIS -- The 7th Rendez-Vous of French Cinema, which wrapped here Monday, proved an upbeat start to the year for Gallic sales companies, with many reporting multiple deals during the four-day minimart. "Sellers are generally happy with the level of contact, especially with German buyers," said Gilles Renouard of organizer Unifrance, which promotes French cinema overseas. "The market is very dynamic, particularly Germany," agreed Muriel Sauzay, head of sales at StudioCanal, which sold the comedy Les Souers Fachees (Me and My Sister) to German distributor Arsenal Filmverleih. Actors Daniel Auteuil and Miou-Miou accompanied director Claude Berri for a Saturday night gala screening of his latest film, L'un reste, l'autre part (One Stays, the Other Leaves), produced and sold by Pathe. "There's a lot of interest in the film, but we're taking our time," sales veteran Jacques-Eric Strauss said.
