This is one of the actualities that Gabriel Veyre shot in Mexico and that was distributed by the Lumieres. Its composition was more obvious and formal than most Lumiere short subjects and gives the impression of a group portrait rather than a scene. Because of that, it betrays its creator's roots in photography more clearly than most Lumiere films, which were always perfectly composed but which also used conflicting lines of motion to maintain interest.
Perhaps to let the audience understand that this was shot in Mexico, several of the subjects wear stereotypical high-crowned, wide-brimmed hats.
