Padded

There's not enough story here to go around, so they pad it endlessly with train scenes that serve no purpose other than to show off 3D effects. That said, it's a nice simple kids story that works well for them, not so much for anyone older. A few of the character models are super creepy though...

Will not be my favorite BUT does rank 4 stars!

Not much has been written about the storyline so I won't spoil the mystery. I can say tho', that this movie fills the heart with all that Christmas is. No 'crying happy' ending; but then no 'crying sad' ending either. A very good movie for children and adults who are having trouble 'Believing'. Tom Hanks and Robert Zemeckis have outdone themselves. The graphics are unbelievably realistic. The human characters' animation is as real as if they were flesh and blood. The best part is that, there is no line between what is real and what is computer generated; it's ALL the same! In so many 'Fantasy' movies, computers are the only way to make the fantastic real; 'Polar Express's'animation is able to make you feel that the fantasy is REAL and that the fantastic is really possible and happening right before your eyes. I highly recommend this movie to EVERYONE!

Look at your hand for 5 quality minutes, concentrate. But actually first commence this timed video. Slowly gaze up from looking at your hand as it plays. If the video is over once you've completely brought your attention from your hand to the screen, then GREAT. IF the video is still in progress, go through it again.

The most touching story I ever saw...(I don't know if I inserted some spoilers, if so, I warned you...)

Warning: Spoilers
I saw the movie yet 3 or 4 times and cannot get enough of it. Though it is really a bit soapy, I always have to cry for being touched at the time the lonely boy gets accompanied while singing about his loneliness by the tough girl. And I once was really proud to being called "The tough boy who never cries, no matter how stirring the movie is"... Actually I really never cried on a movie before. But I have also never been touched like that by a movie. Perhaps it is the story itself. It is sort of telling my story. As long as I can think, I never believed in GOD, Santa or such things. Late I found HIM though. I could recommend the movie and will give him ten out of ten points.

one of the best Christmas movies ever made
skandvohra23 August 2006
polar express from my point of view is one of the best Christmas movies ever made.Excellent animation(sorry animation is not a proper word because nothing can look more realistic then this movie).reminds u the real meaning of Christmas and no age bar .recommended for all ages and one of the best animated movie i have seen .fills your heart and soul with magic and yes reminding u to 'believe' in yourself.even small small things were given emphasis and the level of animation was to its max. credit goes to the person who wrote this book and to the animators who made the dreams of many people come true.new Christmas carols were added which were very good.so a must watch for everyone.

Creative Geniouses

To me this movie deserves nothing but accolades. The story, presentation techniques, color selection, sound synchronization, computer/modeling/animation/etc., "voicing", etc. are absolutely amazing and outstanding. The smallest of details on the locomotive, cars, buildings, clothing, backgrounds, etc. show up amazingly well. The book has been interpreted with artistry, creativity and "spectacularness"! As an adult, I began to believe that it was all true. It took me back to my childhood when anything seemed like it could be possible. I would love to shake the hand of everyone who brought this book to "life" on the full screen! Thanks.

Caution: Dangerous for Children
jackpecos26 December 2005
Warning: Spoilers
The film is pretty to look at, admittedly, and the music is pleasant, although perhaps a bit too reminiscent of Lloyd Webber's "Phantom of the Opera" at times. What I object to is the theme expressed. Constantly the film urges the central character, along with the viewer, to "believe," as if this were some sort of virtue. Blind belief is not a good thing, and is probably responsible for most of the evils of the last few centuries, including suicide bombers, terrorist attacks on office buildings, the attempted extermination of the Jews (among others) during the Second World War, and religious wars ad infinitum. What the world really needs now is questioners. Toward the end of the film, when our young hero is deposited safely back at home, the Conductor tells him, "The important thing is to decide to get on the train, no matter where it's going." My flesh crawled.

One of the finest Christmas films in decades
Barnabasat456 January 2006
I just had to spell out Christmas in caps, just to protest all this evil nonsensically political correctness. My goodness, not since Albert Finnys 1970 musical "Scrooge" have I experienced such a magical ride as I did on the Polar Express. Although, some of the animation which lay across the actors faces was a bit distracting, this film was like a happy childhood dream. Beautiful newly written holiday songs plus old standards filled my ears while my eyes and soul were filled with the magic of Christmas and Santa. How anyone could not love this film epic is beyond me. To all those far left wingers that did not enjoy Polar Express I say Bah Humbug!
