A relatively forgettable road movie, I am not impressed

Warning: Spoilers
"SommerHundeSöhne" is a German German-language film from 2004, so this one will soon have its 15th anniversary and this is what I believe the first full feature film by Cyril Tuschi and also one of his more known works. It basically a road movie and Fabian Busch as well as Stipe Erceg are in the center of it all. I know both of them and especially the latter is probably relatively well-known to German film buffs. The film runs for 90 minute approximately and besides the bro story, there is also a slight romance sub-plot, but the way how it ends shows us that the film is really all about the platonic relationship between the two central characters. Anyway, I am not too impressed really. The main reason was that Busch and Erceg never really had great chemistry that would make their friendship look authentic. And the previously mentioned romance story was even worse as I found the female character and how it was written so extremely forgettable. I think the movie would have needed a better introduction early on too as honestly the way we should know the characters before they meet each other was simply not elaborated on sufficiently. And I had several struggles with Busch's character transformation that just was not working too well and was a matter of extremes that may have been too much on the unrealistic side. I am also not surprised Busch did not manage to land lead roles for a long time afterward back then as he is always a bit on the bland side, even if the material is probably not helping him either at times. As for Erceg, things were looking better there and he physically fit the character too. But his character had problems too like the core reason for his flight was not too reasonable for me, especially with the revelation near the end as and in the end he gets the call and the alleged dead victim is mostly fine. It is another example of a forced happy ending for the sake of it and has very little to do with convincing story-telling sadly. I am not sure if the potential for a great film was here, but I sure hoped for a better outcome than we got here. I hope Tuschi stepped things up since then as I give his work here a thumbs-down. Not recommended.

rambling journey of self discovery, love and friendship

This movie is about 2 men who bump into each other under unusual circumstances and decide to embark on a journey in a minibus to the desert aka morocco. along the journey their antagonistic feelings towards each other change into friendship as they share various adventures, such as getting their car stolen and then recovering it, going out drinking, etc, together. along the way they meet a young woman running from her past and a young man who collects various junk because he thinks everything has meaning. it's a rambling journey of self discovery, love and friendship. this movie tugs at your heart as you slowly get absorbed in the various characters travels and emotions. The changing scenery is exciting and the acting very good. overall i liked this movie a lot and would recommend it to everyone.
