Not Much To It, But Toto Shows What He Can Do
boblipton14 December 2021
Toto is a tramp who discover Clarine Seymour, having gone for a swim, clothesless. He steals the overalls off a scarecrow, and the two have a series of rough encounters with deputy Bud Jamison.

Toto was a very popular stage performer whom Hal Roach inveigled into the movies. Alas, he didn't care for the work, and broke his contract; Roach hired Stan Laurel to fill out the promised series of shorts. Although this cutdown version of the short lacks a lot, it shows Toto as a capable and quite funny clown.

Miss Seymour was a rising star, a veteran of the Thanhouser company, the star of a Griffith movie, and scheduled to appear in a DeMille picture when she died of "complications following an intestinal operation" -- a fate which I suspect is actually the result of a botched abortion.
