Out of all the cast members, only Hal Linden and Abe Vigoda would end up staying when the series was picked up. Rod Perry's character of Det. Wilson would make one appearance in the first season, and then disappear.
Shot on film, instead of videotape, compared to the rest of the series.
Filmed at CBS Studio Center. Production would move to ABC Television Center for the regular series, along with the sets.
In an interview with the Television Academy Foundation Hal Lindon stated that Abe Vigoda was originally supposed to play the part eventually played by Val Bisoglio, but he could not remember Bisoglio's name or the character name.
Val Bisoglio was dropped from the cast when ABC found out he had also appeared in Linda Lovelace for President the same year. According to Hal Linden, the network was very wary about even a tenuous connection to pornography, and this allowed Danny Arnold to replace him with Jack Soo.
