Not a lot of creativity here

Warning: Spoilers
"Es ist ein Elch entsprungen" or "A Christmoose Carol" is a German film for the holidays from 10 years ago by Dutch director Ben Verbong. There is one name in the cast that says a lot about this film: Christine Neubauer. In my opinion, she is easily among Germany's weakest actresses right now that are fairly famous. And I am not too big on Anja Kling either. Of course, Mario Adorf is a very talented actor, but his presence together with Tarrach and Rohde's voice acting cannot make up for the weak script either. Also I have to say I did not find the kids actors convincing at all, but this should be no surprise either as they have, before this film, mostly appeared in the terrible "Wilde Kerle" franchise.

I cannot say this film here brought me great Christmas spirit. The emotional lesson at the end is pretty ridiculous and nothing that tried to lead it was really touching whatsoever. Luckily, the film stays clearly under 90 minutes, so we don't have to endure through an overlong film here. The elk-reference towards Rudolph in terms of being the one who pulls the sleigh was okay, but could have been elaborated on better as well. Santa's/Adorf's comment on the other reindeer was pretty ridiculous. But the worst moment of the film is when Neubauer (terrible as always) drools about the elk being a big guy. Seriously? So awkward to watch. As some other parts of the film as well. I do not recommend it. I see that Andreas Steinhöfel wrote the original material and also adapted it for the film, which makes this one especially disappointing as, if anybody, he should know how to make his material work. But he did not. Thumbs down. Weak acting, weak script.

Mr. Moose....burp!
tvdavidb16 April 2008
This Christmas everything is different at the Wagner family's home. As the family awakens to a loud crash and finds a large elk sitting awkwardly by the chimney in the house. Meet Mr. Moose. He had been preparing for a test flight with Santa Clauses team of reindeer and sleigh when it ended abruptly and he fell out of the sky through the family's roof. However, the children's Bertil (Raban Bieling) and Kiki (Sarah Beck) excitement over the new domestic pet in the family is short lived, because not only has an amateur hunter Pannecke (Jürgen Tarrach) set his sights on the elk, but also Santa would like to have his elk back before the festive season starts. The film is a moderately witty Christmas comedy with the talking, belching Mr. Moose.Santa Claus (Mario Adorf) is not exactly perfect as he gets drunk in one scene. Mom (Anja Kling) and children must save him and hide him from hunters. Mr. Moose puppetry not entirely convincing.
