MP2K - Laugh Riot
rekha-r-nair21 July 2005
Warning: Spoilers
If you have been working or studying too hard, or even going through a rough patch in life, let your brain take a vacation. And go watch Maine Pyar 'Kyun' Kiya (MP2K). There were no surprises for me at the movie... A David Dhawan movie! I knew exactly what to expect.

Now time for spoilers... The movie is a medley of a lot of other movies. Salman recreates the madness of Biwi No 1. IMHO, Sallu should stick with comedy. He makes you laugh even though it is at his own expense. Sohail Khan imitates some of the old Sallu comic roles. He was very adorable in this movie. He's a lot better than he was in Lakeer and Krishna Cottage. Katrina Kaif is just eye-candy. She does not know how to act. If the director or producer where expecting to cash in on Sallu-Kat off-screen romance, it really did not work. Like most real life couples, even Sallu and Kat don't have much of a chemistry on-screen. She should just walk the ramps and not waste her time in Bollywood. Maybe an item number once a while is all she should try to do. Sush sizzles beyond compare!! After Main Hoon Na and MP2K, Sush is emerging as a gorgeous, sexy and humorous actress. She looks graceful in a Saree and carries out her role with so much ease. The special appearances by Arshad Warsi and Isha Koppikar also adds some masala.

The movie has a slightly different angle than the regular Hindi movie. A Casanova doctor (Sallu) who claims to have a wife to avoid women asking for commitment... When he finally meets "the one" (Kat), all his lies return to haunt him. To cover up one lie, he builds a mountain of other lies. He finds a fake wife in his nurse (Sush) who brings two kids also into the equation and a trail of other boyfriends. A struggling actor (Sohail) is always there to save the damsel (Kat) in distress. The mayhem and madness peaks half way through the movie when Sallu's mom turns up in the fake court during his fake divorce and accepts his fake wife Sush as her real bahu.... The rest of the movie is all about how Sallu tries to kick Sush out of his life and how finally "Love conquers all"!!! All in all, total entertainer. Watch it once. Don't try to find logic or reason... And oh yeah, the songs!! They are just totally foot tapping. I think that a movie is not a success by just having a great story or cast or direction or winning awards... it is by moving people into some extreme emotion. Something that makes you laugh so hard that you cry or something that makes you cry so hard that you will laugh at the dumbest of jokes...

So funny
Dream_Woman9 January 2008
I really loved this movie, i remember when it first came out out the cinema a couple of years ago, so i decided to go and watch it.

Sameer ( who is played by Salman Khan) is a Doctor and only day he meets Sonia (Katrina Kaif), but he tells her that he is married and she wants to meet his wife, then kids and then his mother. Now Sallu played his role excellent but Katrina was really, really bad in this movie? why did the director David Dhawan cast her? she clearly was not right for the part, Arshad Warshi and Isha Koppiker were also really good in this film and not to mention Sushmita, she was just brilliant, totally right for the part and played it extremely well, the music is just great too also. My favourite character would have to be the mother, now i don't want to give too much away but she was very good in the film, so funny, every time she came on screen i would burst out laughing like a 5 year old cause she was that funny, the story was crap and the ending was a bit dull and boring i think but it is a very funny film, so it's kinda worth the watch.

Albeit its shortcomings, Laughter Guaranteed.
ssvikas23 October 2005
Plot Outline: Samir (Salman), a doctor by profession and a flirt by hobby; is in love with Sonia (Katrina) but has unfortunately lied to her that he was already married. Trouble brews when Sonia airs her intentions to meet the alleged wife. Samir approaches his dutiful nurse Naina (Sushmita) to play 'wife' in a drama that turns out into a comedy of errors. Also involved are characters of Rajpal Yadav, Sohail Khan & Arshad Warsi.

Comment: David Dhavan returns again with his comedies and mixed relationships after his last Mujhse Shadi Karogi which was a poor copy-paste of Hollywood's Anger Management. Although the story has nothing vis-à-vis the typical Bollywood, the execution is neat. However, I felt Kya Kool was a better comedy this year.

The movie's negatives and positives emanate from the Actors themselves. Although Salman has done a good job trying to understand why he fell in love (after he probably fell in love during Maine Pyar Kiya in 1989), I found it difficult to see him play Doctor on screen. His brother, supposedly in a comical role is painfully irritating on screen. Other two noted comedians could've done better if their roles were scripted better. Katrina looks lovely, and Sushmita's neat. Music: 'Just chill' makes a good ring tone.

David Dhawan is back
ank_jabberwocky125 July 2005
I am not a fan of Salman Khan in fact i hate him plus Suhail Khan is also there so here it is "Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya " a movie from which i had no expectations and knew right from the beginning it is going to be a Masala entertaining flick with absolutely no space for rational. It turned out to be exactly the same.

THe plot like any other DD's movie is well set for lots of scope of comic errors confusions and stark dialogs. Salman Khan plays a Casanova doctor who to avoid the risk of commitment keeps telling his girlfriends that he is married. The problem starts when he falls in love with a model (Katrina Kaif). Everything goes fine but then Kat asks Salman that she wants to meet his wife so Salman somehow convince His secretary (Sush) to play the part of his wife. To add more troubles in the life of Salman Pyaremohan walks in as a friendly neighbor of Kat. The film reminds of golden days of DD's film making when he gave hits like the No.1 series , Aankhein and all. He lost his touch in between by making movies like Ek Aur Ek Gyarah , Yeh Hai Jalwa and few more but the last movie Mujhse Shaadi Karogi and MPKK shows the real potential of this entertaining director. Performance wise Sush is absolutely amazing she delivers the role point perfect her smile kills you and her Nakhras are awesome. Kat had a role of a model romantic lover and we all know she could do that pretty easily. Amazingly Salman Khan gave a solid comic performance no more irritating laughs and those stupid giggles of Hello Brother. Arshad Warsi is getting better and better in playing the Hero's friend's character. SUHAIL KHAN is a HUGE set back for the movie but David Dhawan had enough brains to keep his role very short and concise but still he damages the movie to some extent.

MPKK is good because of extremely good dialogs and yes they are by JAffery and Sanjay CHel . My personal favorite is the spoof of old mother and how Sush tries to irritate her by the common methods of age old Indian movie. Music is catchy and hip hop so it goes with the taste of the movie IN the end sit back give your Grey cells a break and enjoy the movie as it comes I am sure when you will be driving back home you won't regret for your time and money on this movie 6/10

Disappointing
roxett2030 September 2005
This movie was disappointing. After making a good comedy movie like Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, I was expecting it to be a good movie but it turned out to be a garbage. What a bad acting by Salman Khan and Sohail Khan. Even Katrina's acting was very poor. Sushmita was okay. Arshad Warsi and Rajpal Yadav were wasted. I can't understand how people liked this movie overlooking bad acting by the Khan brothers. I just could not sit till the end of this movie. I would not recommend this movie to anyone. I am cursing the person who actually recommended this movie to me. From now on, I am going to be very careful in watching David Dhawan's movies.

An Awful Movie that is better best forgotten!
ayush8416 July 2005
this movie directed by comedy king David Dhawan is one reason i thought would bring a smile to my face on a hot summer's day.It kinda did but the gap between one smile to another was a bit too big for my comfort. It is awful to say the least with woeful performances that'll make you shudder and make you wish that u had stayed back home.Salman and his brothers were wasted while Katrina needs a lifeline(read:end of the movie) to be bailed out.Sushmita Sen passes muster while Rajpal Yadav belts out a over the top performance. The only relief comes in the form of Arshad Warsi(he scores again) who is in good form . My advice would be stay away from this doctor-patient movie as far as you can because it just might give you the blues!!

A no-brainer, total nonsense masala movie
shariqq15 July 2005
Turned out to be exactly as I expected: A no-brainer, total nonsense masala movie. Exactly what we expect from David Dhawan(DD). But I don't mean any of it in a bad way, coz the movie never tries to be anything more, and in its silliness and absurdity, works well for the comedy genre, while sticking very much within the confines of clichéd family entertainment.

The excuse for a story revolves around a bachelor Casanova Doctor (Salman Khan) in love with a model (Katrina Kaif). But to leave the relationship just to an affair, he tells her he is already married. When she insists on meeting the Wife, he ropes in his ever-doting Nurse (Sushmita Sen) as his fake wife. We also have Arshad Warsi play a sidekick/friend to the doctor, and Sohail Khan as Katrina's intervening neighbor.

As usual, DD defies all logic and intelligence for a movie that is out of his assembly line. It is not one of his best, but definitely better than the mediocre ones he has made us suffer. The comedy is not loud (except for the Rajpal Yadav scenes) and works mostly, especially with Salman and Arshad translating it with their impeccable timing. Sushmita Sen is her usual warm self. Katrina Kaif is a Bombshell, looking every bit as gorgeous as made out to be. And even though she hardly acts, she never comes across as plastic. Sohail Khan is forgettable at best and annoying at worst.

If you are getting bored and have three hours to spare, you'll have a good time watching this instead.

Funny!
espiritlibre12 April 2006
This movie is so funny! Salman is funny, Sohail is funny, Katarina is funny! Sushmita is definitely a scene stealer...I loved the scene where the good doctor takes her out to dinner and she dictates her daily activities. The Laga Laga song was also nice. Sushmita Sen is lucky to have such a statuesque and graceful figure. The rivalry of Salman and Sohail was hilarious! Salman's character was a terrible liar. I guess the moral of the story is not to lie because one lie invariably leads to the next until the person is trapped in a web of deceit. The myriad of lies that form the the plot definitely are responsible for the many comical moments. I saw this one in the there with my friend Raaes. (thanks for keeping in touch, hope you are studying in Toronto). I miss our fights...you still have to learn the proper technique of how to cut onions. Anyways this is a movie review. More comedy please!!!

Hollywood ripoff
anirudh-asher6 March 2007
Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya is copied right off from the 1969 Hollywood classic, Cactus Flower starring Walter Mathau, Ingrid Bergman and Goldie Hawn. Such a pity. Who would have ever thought that the Bollywood industry would ever stoop down to the lack of new ideas and concepts..... again... Every word for word, they just translated the whole script, thats all. There must surely have been no need to do any character research, no direction notes. David Dhawan must have just watched the necessary scene of cactus flower while shooting for the exact same shot on the sets of Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya. such a pity. I hope the Indian film industry gets some fresh ideas coz its getting too musty to breathe in here.

Horrible
silvan-desouza1 March 2009
DD had redeemed himself with MSK to some extent but MPKK is too stupid and falls flat

I went to the theater to watch this film that time, but sadly this was a waste of time

I kept waiting at some scene to make me laugh but this is what I got

First half The film starts with some cheesy suicide scene which is crass and Salman enters and does a monologue with his fake expressions and awkward delivery and that scene only gets boring Slowly we see Sushmita hamming and some cheesy encounter between Salman and some girl

The film is a remake of THE CACTUS FLOWER The entire Sohail track is an irritant and makes you actually frown A Akshay Kumar track of MSK gone wrong here

Salman-Katrina scenes too are horrible Some scenes are funny between Salman- Sushmita and some Arshad Warsi ones sadly they are too few The court scene is quite funny but gets too lengthy and childish

The second half is even more boring, the film just goes on and on Actually Arshad makes a comment in the court scene that Aisi Sadi Hui Hindi Film Jo 3 Gante Se Chali Jaa Rahi Hai, that is actually explaining about this film surely,

David Dhawan is not in his element, one of his worst comedies Music is saving grace, many songs are awesome Cinematography is awesome, this film technically is DD's best film

Salman is pathetic, he makes weird faces and sounds and thinks he is funny, He is not and gets to the nerves Sohail matches him every step in non acting, from this film started his failure and he started doing crass roles Arshad Warsi is the saving grace, he excels and his scenes with Sushmita are damn funny Sushmita Sen is natural but does ham at places Katrina Kaif is fake and has no expressions and her dubbing is off Rajpal Yadav has a small role and is nothing great Bina Kak is okay

Copy of Cactus Flower
tulu12424 September 2005
The film is a complete copy of Cactus Flower for which Goldie Hawn won an Oscar. Although it is a complete copy of the Hollywood film, the film is nevertheless enjoyable with cool songs and good song picturisation. Sohail's first try with comedy is commendable. Though it is a Salman Khan family production, I would have loved to see Govinda in the role of Salman Khan. The "jodi" of Govinda and David Dhawan have previously given us a lot of hilarious movies( Doctor No 1 maybe!!!). I would have loved to hear Katrina speak Hindi as I presume her voice has been dubbed. Overall it's a good movie if you haven't watched Cactus Flower before.

It didn't make me laugh? Kyun? haha
The8thone0028 July 2005
MOvie is not bad, but not good either. Confusion and Chaos creates comedy, but I think bollywood has overdone the formula. It was funny in Golmaal and even other David Dhawan flicks but this one just didn't make me laugh. Maybe all the controversy surrounding it. I thought movie was ordinary, not a laugh riot like his previous comedies. Movie had certain predictability to it too. Sush ending up with salman khan. The performances were OK. Salman's best comic film was Andaz apna apna. In other films he went over the board. This one he was OK, though he did manage to keep a confuse look on his face throughout. Just like he was constipated or was it expression of confusion or distress? Hhaha. Sohail Khan, whats up with that voice? He goes over board on most of the scenes, well not his fault, probably Salman taught him to do it like that. If you see Hello Brother, you know what i mean. Katrina Kaif was not that great. She seem like a robot with no expressions. I don't think she knows Hindi, she didn't even open her mouth in most of the dialogues. She was dubbed for sure. Finally, Sushmita Sen was good. She is hot, graceful, magnetic, and when she talks she carries great confidence. She is a good actress in my mind, she has a wonderful body, great voice, great charismatic approach to each character. She is good to me all the movies she does. Arsad Warsiwas good too, funny, but he had great comic timing since Tere Mere Sapney. He is a great actor. fine performances in all the films he does, at least ones that i have seen. I hope Bollywood don't type cast him to being a comedian. I think he can be a great all around actor. Beena Kak as the mother was OK. Rajpal Yadav is a funny man, he too is a great actor. the movie was disappointing for me, although its bearable watching once. I would not say its gonna be a classic as some David's films were. The Salman controversy didn't help it either.

Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya
SuperShaina27 August 2005
I am a ten year old girl and I watched this film with my parents. It says on the cover that this is the best comedy of the year but it was not good. This movie was introducing Katrina Kaif but she was wasted. She kept on committing suicide every five minutes you'd think something was wrong with her.Salman Khan was good but his role was not.Sohail Khan was very very funny in fact,he was my favorite character. The last brother's role was wasted, but they probably wanted to save money! The mother who was slapping everybody was too much. The songs were not very enjoyable except the ones with Sohail Khan. If you want to watch a movie where don't have to think about anything, not question anything then this is for you.

A total disappointment
the29game24 July 2005
I was totally not expecting anything out of this David Dhawan flick, and the film lived up to its expectations... by totally wasting my money and 3 hours. I usually give a lot of props to David Dhawan, since he is probably the only Indian director who ventures with comedy more often than anyone else. Its usually a nice break from all the dramatic movies. But I have to say this was a total disaster.

The film is filled with songs... at least 6-7 of them, almost never allowing the movie to ever maintain a flow. The storyline of the movie is pretty decent but a lot more could have been done with it to make the movie a whole lot better. Most of the movie was a drag, specially the second half.

Sushmita Sen has done a great job and looks good as always, Salman Khan is getting pretty good at comedy, and Arshad Varsi is hilarious as usual. But barring maybe 25-30 minutes of funny original scenes, the movie is mostly a big waste of time. I would recommend to definitely wait till the DVD is released for watching the film. It might be just a little more enjoyable.

It is probably not the WORST David Dhawan flick, but a BAD one.

Not good
arghasen2004-18 October 2006
I believe the movie was OK, not quite like Mujhse Shaadi Karogi. The funniest thing was that the last sequence where Salman and Arshad goes to Airport to stop Sush, is entirely copied from Friends last episode where Ross and Pheobe goes to stop Rachel. Anyways it was quite cheaply done, and wonder why these directors or the guys responsible cant think something original? Anyways the film overall was not that good. All the actors were trying too hard to make the movie laughable. At few occasions they were successful, but in the process a lot of overacting took place. Anyways thats my opinion, I know a lot of guys would disagree with me, but of course they can also share their views.

Great Movie
rscottyl18 July 2005
Well, this was my first experience with a true "Bollywood" movie. I previously had seen Bend It Like Beckham, and the recently released Bride and Prejudice. I had been wanting to open myself up to new experiences and culture, and of hearing of a lot of the "Bollywood" movies having dancing and musicals, I was interested. I ended up seeing the movie twice, after seeing some of the trailers. I enjoyed the songs, such as "Just Chill" and "Wanna Spend The Rest Of My Life With You". The movie has very vivid colors, as well as great scenery and great music. I was very impressed and decided to see it a second time. It was a little longer than what most movies are, but they did have an intermission in the movie. I plan to get it on DVD, when it comes out, as well as possibly the soundtrack. If you are interested in seeing the movie, I would highly recommend it.

Maine yeh film kyun dehki???!!!
marat_safin2214 September 2006
This is truly one of the worst film I have ever seen. The story was rubbish, the script was weak and Katrina Kaif was appalling. She should stick to modelling. Salman was his usual annoying over the top self. What was Sushmita Sen thinking, she's beautiful and talented, this film does not do any justice to her. I was so bored I wanted to cry!!! What is wrong with everyone? Salman brother was mildly amusing i suppose. Were you senses of humour on holiday? The songs were also not very good and 'Just Chill' was the worst. I couldn't believe the end though Katrina just gives him? He goes to Sush? She marries him? Are you all flipping pagal for God's sake? Utter nonsense.

A day in the vacation life of Katrina Kaif, Salman & Sohail Khan!
Sherazade20 June 2006
Warning: Spoilers
No seriously, this film was filmed like that. Okay, so you know that Katrina and Salman are dating in real-life, and Sohail (the producer of the film) is his brother. Is it any surprise that they are the main characters? And just look at the beautiful locales they chose to shoot the film and song scenes? It's like they went on vacation in Dubai and decided to cash in on the footage of their time spent there.

Anyways, the only good thing about this film is Sushmita Sen. She shimmers, she shines, and glows throughout the entire movie. Her snappy demeanor holds the film together, her costumes as well as her dancing are superb and let's not forget her acting range. She was the only person who acted in the whole film, the rest of the cast were just like lucky losers!

If you still need a premise, well, let me just give you a quick one then. Katrina Kaif meets and falls in love with Salman Khan's character but he has a special way of getting rid of girls by telling them that he is married. It's too bad that Katrina, a suicidal Barbie doll type girl wouldn't take no for an answer and she ends up being rescued by Sohail Khan's character (who plays an aspiring actor and next door neighbour) every time Salman upsets her enough to attempt another suicide. One day, Salman comes up with a plan to use his secretary/nurse (played by Sushmita Sen) to pose as his wife in order to ward Katrina off, but instead he gets more than he bargained for in what ensues from the rest of this wannabe slapstick comedy! Much props to Sohail though for realising that when you have a plot as thin as he had with this film, it's wise to saturate the rest of the project with as many catchy song and dance numbers that will help pass the time spent watching this fluff!

Just chill, just chill!

Hilarious comedy....good time pass
jimmyoneway29 August 2005
Nice movie...just that Salman Khan as always is over acting. Rest the movie is fine and a good time pass. Some moments are real funny and, still laughing from them...

Story is nothing special but the sets and outdoor shooting is very nice.

Songs are nice and melodious. I think the movie just needed more stronger story line..at points it seems to be a copy of some old film.

But a nice copy its a nice time pass and a fun filled movie. Those who have time to spare can see it.

All in all a movie which makes you laugh. I think it will do better in India than in the rest of the world because of the desi storyline.

This movie was so funny Salman's acting is so funny. he was best suited 4 this role along with Arshad. just 1 little thing but it totally copied a bit of the ending from the final episode of friends which was a shock after just seeing that episode to be watching a Indian comedy and suddenly that same bit comes up with different actors and actresses LOL anyways despite this it was a really good film n everyone acted really good i would say no entry, Masti and this film are some of the best comedy movies ever! Salman khan makes this a enjoyable film to watch. You know what you have to make these comments so long. Anyway Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya is a great film! there is that enough now?

must watch
xtibgrlx31 July 2005
I watched this movie the opening weekend because I am a die-hard Salman Khan fan. I expected a lot from this movie but it surpassed my expectations! This movie is going to make you laugh forever! Salman Khan gives a fabulous performance like always he has perfect comic timing. Sushmita Sen is so pretty and hot. She makes a GREAT couple with Salman Khan even though he's shorter. Katrina Kaif is so cute she looks like a nice girl n cute couple with Salman Khan. Sohail Khan is funny like in a stupid funny way. And Arshad Warsi is so funny like always! The mom is really funny you gotta watch out for her. so all in all I recommend this movie to go and watch it only in the big screen because its more fun to watch. Or on DVD but not in the pirated videotapes because they cut out all the funny scenes and good songs. OK thats all and please and please go watch this movie! You wont regret it one bit!
