Jennette McCurdy, who brought her "iCarly" character Sam Puckett to Nickelodeon's "Sam & Cat" faces a tragedy with the passing of her mother, Debra McCurdy, who died Friday (Sept. 20) after a years-long cancer battle.
TMZ reports Debra was diagnosed with breast cancer nearly 17 years ago. She had been in remission, but the cancer returned in 2010 and spread to her brain.
McCurdy attended the People StyleWatch Denim Awards in Hollywood Thursday night. She was expected to host Nickelodeon's "Worldwide Day of Play" Saturday in New York City, but has reportedly -- and understandably -- pulled out of the event.
Jennette, who is slightly older than her Nick character at 21 years of age, is said to have been very close to her mom. Zap2it reached out to Jennette's rep, but did not hear back by the time of this post.

Jane Levy, the rising star from Suburgatory and the upcoming Evil Dead remake, will keep her run of horror going with a starring role in Bharat Nalluri’s film (Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day, Torchwood), In A Dark Place. This is not to be confused with Charlize Theron’s Dark Places. And yes, most of the male population wishes they could meet either of these women in a dark place. Or, I suppose, a well lit one, because they’re both gorgeous. Anywho…
The film is set to begin production in May and is described:
The thriller centers on a young American woman who moves to England to become the governess of a porcelain doll, which the family treats as its own son. When the family leaves for a holiday, the woman begins to think the doll is haunted and may be alive.

Despite the fact that Jane Levy claimed to hate filming Evil Dead, she is back for more horror. THR reports that she has signed on to the horror thriller, In a Dark Place. The Crow: Salvation’s Bharat Nalluri will direct.
With a plot that includes England and a haunted doll, the film is already off to a good start.
“The thriller centers on a young American woman who moves to England to become the governess of a porcelain doll, which the family treats as its own son. When the family leaves for a holiday, the woman begins to think the doll is haunted and may be alive,” The Hollywood Reporter said.

"Suburgatory" star Jane Levy will star in a pretty freaky movie. In a Dark Place is about an American nanny who is brought to London to babysit a doll. The family that brings her in treat the doll like their real son and expect her to do the same. It sounds like a comedy but it's not, it's a psychological thriller. Gold Circle, the production company which made Pitch Perfect and A Haunting in Connecticut, is behind the movie.
Levy, who played Victoria Justice's best friend in Fun Size, has also signed on to star in the remake of Evil Dead.

In A Dark Place, from director Bharat Nalluri, finds a young American woman (Levy) swept away to England where she'll work as a governess on a large estate for, once again, a porcelain doll, THR reports. The family who hired her treats said doll like their own son, and once they've gone away for a spell, the governess begins to suspect it may, in fact, be alive.
Dead Silence (which is really enjoyable!) seems to have put a damper on the dummy/doll come-to-life angle. A shame, as even just the concept is kind of endlessly eerie. "Bring it back," I cry! Maybe In A Dark Place will do so. ...

Suburgatory and Evil Dead star Jane Levy has signed on to star in another horror movie thriller called In A Dark Place, which is being directed by Bharat Nalluri. She previously talked about how crazy an experience it was to shoot Evil Dead and have buckets of blood constantly dumped on her. In A Dark Place doesn't sound like it will be quite as insane, but it tell the story of a creepy doll that comes to life, so that's always fun.
According to THR, the thriller centers on "a young American woman who moves to England to become a governess of a porcelain doll, which the family treats as its own son. When the family leaves for a holiday, the woman begins to think the doll is haunted and may be alive." And that's because it probably is.

When ABC’s sitcom “Suburgatory” debuted in the fall of 2011, the show’s star, Jane Levy, immediately caught our eye. Last year, she was on our list of ten actresses destined for the big time and she has yet to disappoint thus far. She plays the lead role in the upcoming “Evil Dead” remake, which comes out in April, and now she’s got another big role to add to her plate. THR reports that Levy will be playing the lead in the horror thriller “In A Dark Place” with Bharat Nalluri (“Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day”) slated to direct. The film follows “an American woman who moves to England to become the governess of a porcelain doll, which the family treats as its own son. When the family leaves for a holiday, the woman begins to think the doll is haunted and may be alive.” Um...all right.

Whilst we'll get to enjoy Jane Levy (below) screaming and bleeding in Fede Alvarez's 'Evil Dead' remake this April the 23 year old star has now signed on to another creepy project from director Bharat Nalluri. 'In a Dark Place', not to be confused with the Gilles Paquet-Brenner helmed 'Dark Places' that Charlize Theron is loosely attached to at the moment, is a new horror penned by Stacey Menear which will see Levy heading to London. The new psychological thriller will be 'focused around a young American governess, played by Levy, who goes to London to take care of a doll. The family treats the doll like it was their son and expects the governess to take care of it as such.' Gold Circle will finance the film....

Jane Levy – cute lady, but she’s definitely no stranger when it comes to horror! When she isn't making us laugh in her starring role on ABC's Suburgatory, Jane Levy's been adding to her feature credits, with a lead role in last year's Fun Size and a part in the greatly anticipated horror Evil Dead. Wondering just where the hell Stephen Sommers' adaptation of the Dean R. Koontz book Odd Thomas has been? Honestly, we all but forgot about it, but THR just gave us a grim reminder of reality.
As per the site:
The producers of Odd Thomas are suing several entities, alleging that they failed to provide [a shocking] $35 million that would have gone toward marketing and distributing the movie and paying back production loans. Two Out of Ten Prods., known at Toot, and Fusion Films filed their lawsuit Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court, naming as defendants Outsource Media Group Fund, Abs Investment Group, individuals Craig Chang and Mark Bishop, and Outsource Media Group. The latter, referred to as Omg in the lawsuit, is run by principals Bradley Holmes, Dan Reardon, and Harrison Kordestani, an executive producer of lower-budget horrors and thrillers such as The Coffin, Already Dead, In a Dark Place and Intervention.

While there has been some skepticism about the stories Carmen Snedeker and her family have told about their time in a haunted house, no one can argue that the stories themselves are chilling. Author Ray Garton wrote a book about their experiences, "In a Dark Place: The Story of a True Haunting," but has since distanced himself form their claims. Nevertheless, the stories that inspired the film "The Haunting in Connecticut" were the centerpiece of the latest episode of "Paranormal Witness."

Why doesn’t the family in The Haunting In Connecticut just leave the house? But we just qualified for a fixed-rate 20-year mortgage. Here? They don’t even own the place!

Some houses carry memories, and as Fango is ushered onto the set of Lionsgate’s long-anticipated, fact-based ghost story The Haunting In Connecticut (opening March 27), it’s clear that this house is one of them. The scene today is an intense exchange between actors Virginia Madsen (returning to the horror genre over a decade after Candyman and The Prophecy) and Kyle Gallner (recently seen in Red) as mother and son, in the aftermath of a paranormal visitation.
Wooden chairs are piled from floor to ceiling in an unnatural configuration, the way a building destroyed by a tornado takes on an unrecognizable, abstract shape. Hidden behind this mound of furniture is the retreating body of teenaged Matt Campbell (Gallner), sweating, shivering and grasping onto a wall marred with bloody scratches. His mother Sara (Madsen) approaches him with a mix of trepidation and concern, as unnerved by the sight of her hysterical son as we are.
