Dawn Landes made a deliberate choice about what kind of music she hoped to make when she approached Monument Records founder Fred Foster about producing her new album. Even so, Landes still had to prove her artistic worth to the 86-year-old Country Music Hall of Fame member, who had mostly retired from recording 10 years earlier.
“He didn’t even Google me or anything. He never heard of me, so therefore I didn’t really exist,” says the Kentucky native, who relocated from New York to Nashville with her husband during the recording process.

By Peter BelsitoThis very internal subjective psychological drama features rising indie star Joslyn Jensen (‘Without’, ‘Driftwood’) ) as ambitious young composition student Malorie who has her creative juices sucked right out of her by the testosterone-stuffed New York academy where she studies for her PhD.
She is justly upset by the crass and demeaning treatment she is given there.
After being put down and losing access to the all-female scholarship she is finding no more energy to even feel inspired, and then she starts visiting strangers in the city for sex and pay
With lace-wearing Malorie absurdly out of place at first but pushed beyond her narrow confines by curiosity and boredom, she realizes that these commercial sexual encounters inspire her in the most unexpected manner as she starts to hear music during these commercial sex acts.
This is both comical and serious at first, as she decides she must write...

Tim Sullivan (Driftwood, Chillerama, Vh1.s Scream Queens) has optioned the rights to Doors co-founder Ray Manzarek.s bestselling novel The Poet in Exile. Plans call for a feature film to be written and directed by Sullivan and produced by Manzarek. Sullivan will co-write the script with Chillerama producer and editor Gavin Heffernan (Expiration) and New Mexico poet/author Liz Sullivan (Icons and Outcasts).
Published to strong acclaim, Manzarek.s novel explores the notion .what if. his former band mate, the iconic rock and roll poet and legend Jim Morrison, did indeed stage his death in 1971 (as widely speculated), and now, 40 years later, contacts Manzarek from his hiding place in the Seychelles Islands to embark on one final journey of rock and roll rebellion.

Due to unprecedented consumer demand, Image Entertainment has announced that horror anthology Chillerama is coming to video-on-demand and movies-on-demand on Thursday, September 29th.
Produced by ArieScope Pictures, Chillerama is in the spirit of classic “omnibus” films like Dead of Night, Tales From the Crypt, Creepshow and Twilight Zone: The Movie. With four vignettes (Wadzilla, Zom-b-movie, I Was A Teenage Werebear, The Diary Of Anne Frankenstein) that not only celebrate the golden age of B horror schlock but also nearly the entire history of horror cinema itself, this anthology offers something for every bad taste.
It’s the closing night at the last drive-in theater in America and Cecil B. Kaufman (Richard Riehle) has planned the ultimate marathon of lost film prints to unleash upon his faithful cinephile patrons. Four films so rare that they have never been exhibited publicly on American soil until this very night! What could possibly go wrong?...

One of the most talked about, highly anticipated horror films of the season has to be the anthology Chillerama. With segments directed by Tim Sullivan, Adam Green, Adam Rifkin, and Joe Lynch, the early word on the film is that it’s a fantastic homage to drive-in cinema. Unexpected demand for the film have caused Image Entertainment to premiere the film on VOD before it hits limited theaters/DVD/Blu Ray. On the 29th of this month, that’s 3 days a way, everyone will finally have the chance to see this film, and decide if it’s worthy of the praise it’s received. Jesse Bartel, a staff writer and administrator here at The Liberal Dead had the opportunity to see the film on the big screen over the weekend. Expect a review from him very soon.

Image Entertainment, Inc. has acquired all distribution rights to the horror anthology film Chillerama, featuring out gay director Tim Sullivan and Judas Kiss star Sean Paul Lockhart (aka Brent Corrigan.) Billed as “the ultimate midnight movie”, plans call for a theatrical and potential “road show” release in early fall, with VOD and DVD targeted for latter Q4. The announcement was made by Image Entertainment’s Chief Acquisition Officer, Bill Bromiley.
“This title is a nightmare come true for anyone who loves horror films, twisted humor, and skilled film making,” said Bromiley. “Chillerama, and its foursome of fierce film makers, presents a bloody-good cinematic love letter to fans.”
“The four directors of Chillerama are as much fans of horror film as they are filmmakers,” said Mark Ward, Vice President of Acquisitions, Image Entertainment. “I’m thrilled that Image is partnered with them to bring this very special film to audiences everywhere.

Chillerama Earlier in the year I caught Tim Sullivan's segment for Chillerama entitled "I Was a Teenage Werebear" starring Brent Corrigan, Anton Troy, Gabrielle West and Lin Shaye. It was a spot on entry that captured the beach movie mentality to the tee, but with a gay horror twist. I Was a Teenage Werebear was one of the most entertaining things I had seen come out of the horror entertainment field this year to date. If the other segments from Chillerama are halfway as entertaining as this one, then Chillerama is one of the most anticipated horror films of the year for me. So on that note, I am glad to hear that Image Entertainment is going to be bringing the horror to genre fans this fall.

[With I Was A Teenage Werebear playing film festivals and Chillerama set to debut later this year, Tim Sullivan writes up the first of two parts, regarding his experiences bringing this unique film to life! --Dqm]
As I write this, I am sitting in my hotel room in Honolulu, one day before the world premiere of my Chillerama segment, I Was a Teenage Werebear at the Rainbow Film Fest.. It’s been a long journey to get to this point. I am grateful to so many who supported my journey, and even more grateful to those who did not, for they only strengthened my fortitude to be true to myself, and to my artistic vision. Hawaii will be followed by a 3 month tour on the Lgbt film circuit, before Werebears joins its companion films as part of Chillerama late summer/early fall. (I cannot Wait to tell you what me, Adam Rifkin, Joe Lynch and Adam Green got planned for That!!!!)
With the ocean breeze wafting through the balcony windows, I find myself in a reflective mode. For those who don’t already know it, let me just spell it out.

Brent Corrigan (aka Sean Paul Lockhart)
in "I Was a Teenage Werebear" After years of working in the horror genre, gay horror film director Tim Sullivan (2001 Maniacs) has finally embraced his gay following with a segment in the horror / comedy anthology Chillerama entitled I Was a Teenage Werebear. Werebear is now gearing up to make its world premier in Hawaii during the Rainbow Film Festival on May 13th. Werebear has caused some ruckus in the horror film community due to the casting of Brent Corrigan (aka Sean Paul Lockhart) in the leading role. Brent Corrigan is best known for his presence in the adult film community and for his torrid past which involved him performing in porn while underage and performing in bareback porn. However, Brent Corrigan has managed to push through and keep his superstar status in the gay adult world due to his undeniable charisma and boyish good looks.

In the midst of the dime-a-dozen landscape of CGI-nuked sci-fi fare, alien invasion offerings of late have all too often ranged from animated to absurd to involuntarily laughable. So why on Earth do we keep coming back? Let’s hash it out below with Battle: Los Angeles actor Cory Hardrict (Gran Torino, Return Of The Living Dead 4-5, Driftwood, etc.).

Ever since Sdcc 2010, one of my must-see flicks for this year has been Battle: Los Angeles, the alien invasion flick starring Aaron Eckhart, Michelle Rodriguez, and Bridget Moynahan. So when I had to opportunity to speak with Cory Hardrict, who also stars in the flick, I jumped at the opportunity to interview the up-and-coming actor who chatted about his experiences becoming an alien-fighting Marine and gave us a little tease of what we can expect from another upcoming genre project he stars in entitled The Day.
In Battle: Los Angeles, Hardrict (who horror fans may remember from Tim Sullivan’s 2006 flick Driftwood) portrays Cpl. Jason Lockett, a role the actor says hit very close to home.
“I knew that playing Jason was going to require a lot of realism because he’s an emotional and passionate kind of guy,” explained Hardrict. “The way he was written really hit home for...

Gay adult superstar Brent Corrigan has just wrapped the leading role in writer/director Tim Sullivan’s segment of the horror-comedy anthology feature film “Chillerama”. Bloody Disgusting has just scored a wicked batch of bloody stills from First Look Studios' forthcoming July 20 DVD/Blu-ray release of 2001 Maniacs: Field Of Screams, the latest installment of the gore-soaked horror-comedy franchise. The film premiered in the Us at the Texas Frightmare festival this past April and will have a subsequent Los Angeles premiere hosted by the American Cinematheque July 15th at the Egyptian theater. Tim Sullivan (2001 Maniacs, Driftwood) returns to the writing-directing helm with Field of Screams. This time around the Southern residents of Pleasant Valley take their cannibalistic Guts N' Glory Jamboree on the road to Iowa where they encounter spoiled Northern heiresses Rome and Tina Sheraton and the cast and crew of their "Road Rascals" reality show. Director Josh Vargas (Sway) dropped us another line today updating us on the casting for his remake of the S.F. Brownrigg film Don't Look in the Basement. There's good stuff coming, folks.
You can add three names to the festivities! Tim Sullivan (2001 Maniacs, Driftwood) will be playing L.J, the head orderly of the Stevens Sanitarium; James Fury (Walking Distance) will be playing Billy Doyle, the unlucky telephone repair technician dispatched to the isolated asylum for what proves to be a most deadly meeting with the inmates; and Anthony Brownrigg (Red Victoria), who's also the son of the late S.F. Brownrigg, will be playing Sergeant Craig Jaffe, one of the more dangerous patients in the sanitarium.
The trio join the already announced Brooke Lewis (iMurders, Dahmer vs. Gacy) as Charlotte Beale, Kelli Maroney (Chopping Mall, Night of the Comet, Fast Times at Ridgemont High) as Nurse Jane St. Claire, Kristen Hall (Sweatshop,...

It’s not often in the world of horror you can use the term wunderkind, but J.D. Lifshitz might be just that and then some. At 17 years old, Lifshitz is anything but your average teenager. He recently finished filming his first feature film, Killed on the Fourth of July, during the summer of 2009 after writing the script and securing independently-raised funding alongside his partner Josh Adams.
Now, in the midst of editing his first foray into writing/directing professionally, Lifshitz took some time out of his busy schedule to talk to us about how he got his start, his film Killed on the Fourth of July, and what he thinks about joining the ranks alongside many of his horror heroes.
Lifshitz’s fascination with the macabre started when he was just two years old (he’s making movies at 17, it’s not at all surprising that he’d start appreciating...

‘Tis the season to start feeling jolly, so here’s an old holiday short film from horror maestro Tim Sullivan, A Christmas Treat. In fact, this is Sullivan’s first short film directed back when he was an Nyu student back in the ’80s. It’s a really well done short with a nice, slow set-up and a terrific punchline. It reminds me a lot of the old Tales From the Darkside TV show, which would have been a contemporary at the time this was produced.
I don’t think I’ve written about Tim Sullivan on Bad Lit before, but he’s one helluva nice guy and a wonderful horror movie director. There are two films by him you need to check out if you haven’t already. The first is 2001 Maniacs, an updating of the Herschell Gordon Lewis splatter classic that stars the legendary Robert Englund and the wonderfully quirky Giuseppe Andrews,...

With James Gunn moving on to other things, the question beckoned: Who would be at the helm of this season's "Scream Queens" for VH1? It didn't take long for the answer to come.
From the Press Release
“Scream Queens 2” will take a new cadre of 10 aspiring actresses and give them the chance to win a breakthrough role in “Saw 3D,” the next film in Lionsgate’s “Saw” horror franchise. The reality competition series is produced by Lionsgate and Joke Productions, Inc., and is slated to premiere in 2010.
Season One winner Tanedra Howard was featured in the coveted and iconic “opening trap” scene in “Saw VI,” playing the character “Simone.” Due to her breakout performance and significant storyline, she is also expected to appear in future Lionsgate productions, a major coup for the previously undiscovered actress.
This season’s cast will once again be put through a horror film boot camp with intense physical challenges,...

A few weeks ago we told you that James Gunn had to jump ship from VH1's season 2 of Scream Queens because he would be filming his new film, Super. Today we have word of his replacement and another departure from the series. Hit the jump for the full story. Looks like tough as nails acting coach John Homa will be the only familiar face returning from Season 1. Director Tim Sullivan (2001 Maniacs, Driftwood) will be replacing Gunn and actress Shawnee Smith (Saw series) will be replaced by actress Jamie King (My Bloody Valentine, The Tripper). The series is expected to air in 2010 on VH1. Season 1 winner Tanedra Howard went from obscurity to landing a role in Saw VI, while the winner of Season 2 will be given a role...

Although I’m probably in the minority on this one, I’m of the belief that “Driftwood” director Tim Sullivan’s over-the-top 2005 horror/comedy “2001 Maniacs,” though stupid from its underbite to its ingrown toenails, is solid entertainment. Do keep in mind, however, that there’s absolutely no accounting for taste. Unless I’ve grossly underestimated the film’s fanbase, I’m sure most of you couldn’t care less about the much-delayed follow-up “Field of Screams,” a title which may or may not change between now and the time this thing finally gets released. At one point, the film was called “2001 Maniacs: Beverly Hellbillys,” as well as “2001 Maniacs: The Sequel.” What keeps me from being overly excited about the project is the complete absence of legendary horror icon Robert Englund. I know they’ve hired Bill Moseley to carry the proverbial torch, but as you well know, Moseley is certainly no Robert Englund.

Finally, we take a breath, clear the cobwebs of mourning and peek out from beneath the shadows to find out how the late Forrest J Ackerman continues to do us good. At genre conventions from coast to coast, fans and friends pay tribute to the grand old man who made us monsters!
Ken-tucky? Yep, they Ken!
Any horror fan, young or old, who’s in it for the scare-making arts, crafts and monster makers, Must experience Wonderfest. I flew over the cool greenery and picturesque graveyards of Louisville, Kentucky to attend the first Con I’ve been to without Uncle Forry by my side. While most travelers rushed to the baggage claim to pick up luggage and trot off to watch horses run some derby, I was there for the monsters!
In its 20th year, Wonderfest is a gathering place for modelers. Make that “Super-modelers.” Builders, sculptors, painters, collectors, you name it!
