At some point before his death in July 1971, Jim Morrison handwrote a list, titled “Plan for Book,” that laid out his thoughts on a collection of his poetry, lyrics, and other work. Now, 50 years after his passing and the release of his last album with the Doors, that blueprint is coming to fruition in what promises to be the most exhaustive collection of his writing to date.
Published June 8th by HarperCollins, The Collected Works of Jim Morrison: Poetry, Journals, Transcripts and Lyrics promises to be something of a Morrison motherlode.

Photo: ‘Endangered Species’/Blue Sky Films ‘Endangered Species’ is the newest film by writer-director M.J. Bassett. Advertised as an action and a thriller, ‘Endangered Species’ really focuses on inter-familial struggles and relationships. We’re given first-hand looks at how the Halsey family operates and what each of their strengths and weaknesses are. As the film progresses, it ventures off of the path of a family drama and tries too hard to be something it isn’t. The story of the film seems to be too preachy and too obvious about its true message of conservation. Every dialogue exchange seems to relate to the core politics of the film, which takes away from the viewing experience. Senseless gore distracts from holes in the story, but ultimately, ‘Endangered Species’ has a talented cast and a broken story. The White House is tapping YouTube stars for vaccine messaging, as Joe Biden and Anthony Fauci appear in new videos released on Monday that were part of a virtual town hall in an effort to reach young audiences unsure or hesitant to get the shots.
Among those doing interviews are the stars of Brave Wilderness, hosted by Nathaniel “Coyote” Peterson and Mark Vins, who have an outdoor adventure channel, and Manuel Gutierrez Jr., known as Manny Mua, and Jackie Aina.
I know folks have a lot of questions about the Covid-19 vaccines, so Dr. Fauci and I hosted a YouTube Town Hall with Manny Mua, Brave Wilderness, and Jackie Aina to answer them. Make sure to tune in for the premiere: https://t.co/aT1AMlim3Z pic.twitter.com/GBMTYJsNIT

Warning: the Handmaid’s tale season 4 episode synopses below contain plot spoilers
The Handmaid’s Tale isn’t the kind of TV show that suits a binge-watch. Its heart-heavy dystopian story about a brutal theocracy that enslaves and rapes fertile women benefits from a little fresh air between episodes. On-screen torture and suffering are best delivered in small doses.
It’s good news then, that after its first three episodes are released on Hulu in one batch on Wednesday April 28th, the remaining seven episodes of season four will be released weekly each Wednesday until June 16th, giving US viewers all time to digest.
For UK viewers, season four is confirmed to be airing on Channel 4 as usual, but the broadcaster has yet to confirm a start date. As soon as one is announced, we’ll pass it on. The imported show traditionally airs weekly on the terrestrial channel. Seasons...

Jade Jackson is missing people. In her hushed new ballad “6Ft Changes,” she laments all the interactions we’ve lost since early 2020. Handshakes, hugs, crowded spaces, and dances are distant memories to the California roots-music songwriter.
“Dancing with strangers and holding up beers/tapping on shoulders and whispering in ears/was taken for granted all these years,” Jackson sings in the track, her first new music since 2019’s full-length Wilderness. The song arrives with a striking music video filmed in the deserted Fremont Theater in Jackson’s hometown of San Luis Obispo.

The 2021 Sundance Film Festival is just around the corner and there’s a handful of high-profile premieres in which a notable actor is making their directorial debut. Focus Features has now unveiled the first trailer for one as Robin Wright, after a nearly 40-year career in Hollywood, is stepping behind the camera for Land, premiering January 31 at Sundance, with a subsequent awards-qualifying theatrical release on February 12.
Wright stars as Edee, a woman whose life has been tragically altered by unfathomable event. She is determined to separate herself from the world by living in the vast American wilderness with only a few supplies and leaving her old life behind indefinitely off the grid in Wyoming. After a farmer (Demián Bichir) savers her life, Edee begins to wonder if it is really possible to disconnect oneself from others in this world.

Humans battling the forces of nature is a rich vein for filmmakers to mine and is unlikely to ever be tapped out, with yet another example seen in the first trailer for action thriller Rogue.
The movie, sadly, is not a standalone feature for the X-Men‘s power-absorbing southern belle, but the title instead refers to rogue lions, big cats without a pride. These are typically young males chased away by an older leader they were unable to overpower and usurp, but the trailer makes explicit mention of the antagonistic animal in question being female, probably indicating she’s unusually ferocious.
The story sees a group of mercenaries sent to rescue a young woman kidnapped by a militia group in Africa, but after being stranded, they seek refuge in a remote building, only to become menaced by the killer kitty of the title, trapping them inside as the enemy closes in on them.

Since his debut feature “Pulque Song” won the Mexican Academy Ariel Award for best documentary feature in 2003, Everardo González has been among his country and the world’s most prolific and awarded documentary filmmakers.
This year, the filmmaker was in Morelia, where “Pulque Song” was once also awarded as the year’s best documentary feature, with his upcoming feature “Wilderness” in the Michoacán festival’s pix-in-post sidebar Impulso Morelia.
Shot among the nomadic peoples of Namibia, Mexico, Australia, Pakistan, India, Mongolia, the Moroccan Sahara and the Navajo of Arizona, the feature observes life as it’s been lived for millennia by indigenous communities.
In harsh conditions and often without the benefit of a shared language, González went into the communities with just his camera, and came out with a film that stands in stark contrast to his last feature, the highly praised yet devastating “Devil’s Freedom.”

The award-winning Icelandic director Dagur Kári (“Virgin Mountain”) is helming all eight episodes of the series.

If there is a film (or films) meant to represent Japan’s nowadays society/economy in a nutshell, that could be this 6 hour epic journey called “Wilderness: Part 1” & “Wilderness: Part 2”. And although we are talking about two films here, Wilderness is really one film split in two, since both parts directly depend on each other. Directed by Yoshiyuki Kishi and starring outstanding actors such as Masaki Suda, Ik-june Yang, Yusuke Santamaria, Akari Kinoshita and Tae Kimura among others.
Wilderness: Part 1 & 2 is screening at Nippon Connection
The context is set on the very near future in Japan, the year 2021. On the one hand, we have Shinji, one of the main protagonists of the story. Shinji is a young boy who has been involved in street gangs in the past and who has just been released from prison. Filled with hatred and with a clear goal due to the consequences that his violent past has left him,...

I don't know from video games, but I know fans of the Halo series have been dreaming of a feature film for many, many years. While the news that Ridley Scott would produce a "digital series" was likely enticing, I don't think anyone expected Halo:Nightfall to look as big budget and glossy as this!
This trailer feels like it's for a blockbuster. We don't have a famous face, but we do have some great acting talent here in Mike Colter (The Good Wife) and a cast of others including Christina Chong (24: Live Another Day), Steve Waddington (The Last Of The Mohicans), Luke Neal (Wilderness) and Christian Contreras (Zero Dark Thirty.

In one of its most ambitious undertakings to date, Microsoft is moving forward with the live-action Halo: Nightfall TV series, which will debut for the Xbox One this November. Hailing from Ridley Scott’s Scott Free Productions and Microsoft’s 343 Industries, the five-part series is set between the fourth and upcoming fifth Halo video games. Now, we have a taut first trailer for the show, which promises lots of brooding actors and an enigmatic storyline – not much of a surprise, seeing as it was written by Prison Break creator Paul Scheuring.
Nightfall centers on a new character named Jameson Locke (Mike Colter), described as “a legendary manhunter and agent with the Office of Naval Intelligence (Oni), Earth’s most powerful and secretive military branch.” Locke is the protagonist of Halo 5: Guardians, so Nightfall will act as an origin story for the character. There have been no less than nine different video games to bear the name of Silent Hill since the first chapter arrived in 1999, and by this point it's safe to say that the Konami franchise has built up a pretty strong fan base for their endless horror series -- but only one movie so far. By comparison, Capcom's Resident Evil, which debuted three years earlier now boasts 23 game releases and seven movie adaptations, if you're including the animated ones, but that franchise offers numerous beautiful women who kill zombies, whereas Silent Hill just has ... the world's creepiest town. The first movie arrived via Christoph Gans in 2006, and while it's a bit longer than any video-game-based horror flick has any right (or need) to be, it still holds up as a rather impressive visual display on unpleasant eeriness.
So how's the sequel?

This new clip from the new Silent Hill movie, Silent Hill: Revelation, is pretty good. I mean, in a vapid, cartoon-y kind of way. Which is fine.
The writer, Michael Bassett, is a UK filmmaker with some pretty good horror and fantasy films under his belt (Deathwatch, Wilderness) as well as a questionable one (Solomon Kane).
Bassett is a nice guy; I took him to a press screening of Hard Candy back in the day, and he enjoyed it (I think). In any case, I have faith in Bassett, but I'm not sure why Solomon Kane turned out as outlandishly as it did; perhaps it's just a silly, outlandish story and there was no getting around that?
This just-releases clip from the upcoming (in October 2012) Silent Hill: Revelation at the 2012 Sand Diego Comic-Con actually shows what will probably end up being my favorite part of the movie. These...

The 14th century never looked so bad. Today Fangoria.com presents an exclusive video chat (see below the jump) with acclaimed British director Christopher Smith (Creep, Severance, Triangle), who previews his new movie, Black Death. The medieval horror thriller opens this Friday in New York, La and Minnesota from Magnet Releasing and is currently available on demand. In part one of our four-part interview, Smith talks with Fango’s Tony Timpone about Black Death’s plot and the development of the script by Wilderness’ Dario Poloni, as well as the story’s parallels to today and potential religious controversies.

British director Christopher Smith made a name for himself with two touted twists on the slasher sub-genre: 2006′s horror-comedy Severance, and 2009′s cryptic murder-mystery Triangle. Now he takes on new ground, leaving the horror – though not the gore – behind with his ambitious period piece Black Death.
Set in the midst of the bubonic plague outbreak, the film centers on a motley crew of Christian soldiers who seek to destroy a devil-worshiping necromancer that’s said to live beyond a perilous marsh. Their guide on this journey is Osmund (the aptly named Eddie Redmayne), a young monk struggling with his faith and searching for his destiny–and his lost lover. Surrounded by the devastation of the plague and its resulting witch hunts (both figurative and literal), Osmund is in turns horrified and amazed by the world outside his monastery. When these bruisers and their boy scout reach the place beyond the marsh,...

The long awaited Silent Hill sequel is finally green lighted and being made in conjunction with Lionsgate, Konami, and Davis Films. This time it is will be written and directed by Michael J. Bassett, whose credits include Deathwatch and Wilderness . Roger Avery was originally slated for that role but was serving time for Manslaughter and a DUI conviction. This latest film will of course be done in 3D and will not be picking up where the first one left off. Instead it’s picking up on the story that Silent Hill 3 told in the video game franchise. That makes the story this: “For years, Heather Mason and her father have been on the run, always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn’t fully understand. Now on the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by terrifying nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she’s not...

I personally think Michael J. Bassett is an underrated horror movie director. I very much liked his Wwi trench warfare/horror movie “Deathwatch”, and thought his follow-up, the survival thriller “Wilderness” was pretty good, too. Granted, they’re not what you would consider genre-breaking, but they were very decent and entertaining entries in their field. After directing the little-seen “Solomon Kane” (another film of his I liked, but wasn’t exactly great), Bassett has parlayed that to his biggest profile movie yet, the sequel to “Silent Hill”, which he will be directing before starting on “Saint Mary’s”, a psychological supernatural horror movie that he has signed on to write and direct for Mann Made Films. Billed as a psychological horror story about an evil presence in a disused mental asylum, Saint Mary’s details the story of a group of young people who are deliberately trapped inside a labyrinthine...

British director Michael J. Bassett (Deathwatch, Wilderness, Solomon Kane) has been getting busy lately. In addition to taking the helm of the 3-D sequel Silent Hill: Revelation, he has also signed on to direct a supernatural chiller called St. Mary’s.
Bassett is developing the project with screenwriter Matthew Kingshott, based on the Kingshott’s story about an abandoned asylum where a group of trapped youths encounter an evil presence that makes their worst nightmares come true. James Edward Barker of Veneration Music will produce and compose the score for the movie, while Scott Mann, director of the recent, well-received action film The Tournament, serves as executive producer. Barker and Mann have teamed for a slate of additional new projects, one of which is another occult opus titled The Vanishment.

We've heard for a while now that a sequel to the 2006 video game adaptation, Silent Hill, was on the way. In fact, back in May, it was reported that the movie would begin production by late spring, but of course that didn't work out quite as planned.
It may have taken a little longer, but now a press release has been sent out confirming that the sequel, titled Silent Hill: Revelation 3D, will begin production this upcoming winter in Toronto. The film is already in pre-production under producers Samuel Hadida and Don Carmody, who just recently delivered Resident Evil: Afterlife...also in 3D.

Black Death is probably one of my favourite films so far this year. A proper psychological horror film, brilliantly written by Dario Poloni (Wilderness) and with an excellent cast (Sean Bean, Carice Van Houton, John Lynch) directed by Christopher Smith (Creep, Severance, Triangle), it really took me by surprise when I saw it earlier this year. Recently I was lucky enough to get an exclusive interview with writer Dario Poloni. This is the first half of our discussion…
Where did you get the idea for Black Death, what was the starting point? How long did it take between the first draft and being picked up by the film company?
The script was a commission, based on an original idea of mine. I started out with a simple concept; a policeman whose wife has just died is sent to investigate a cult who claim to be able to bring back the dead.

Apparently the Portuguese love themselves some horror. This year’s Fantasporto film festival, the leading film festival in Portugal, wrapped up its week-long exhibition on March 6th by awarding several new genre films.
The top honors were given to Heartless, a British film from Philip Ridley (The Passion of Darkly Noon) who hadn’t directed a film in fourteen years. The film, which stars Timothy Spall, is a horror-fantasy that follows a man with a mysterious heart-shaped birthmark on his face who discovers demons on the streets of East London.
Not only did Heartless score the award for Best Film, it also took home Best Direction for Ridley, and Best Actor for Jim Sturgess. Bassett penned the script, in which homicide detective John Callisto (Morgan), now a retired recluse after being nearly murdered by a serial killer, is tracked down by a relentless journalist. As the two confront each other, dark secrets from both their pasts come to light. Av Pictures, which also handled world sales on Bassett's "Wilderness," is selling the title in Berlin. The pic, which Av said is budgeted at just over $10 million, is set to shoot in May.
