Truly One Of The Worst Games Of All Time.
kylehaines9620 June 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I am the first person to review this game. Is that an honor or disgrace? The game features Bubsy The Bobcat who game company Accolade tried to push as there mascot and got famous but for all the wrong reasons. The first 2 Bubsy Games were dumb but not as bad as this one which is a bland plat-former which is apparently the winner of the non-existent Gold-X award. Bubsy is stranded on a distant planet and has to find the parts of his Rocket Ship. This game has horrible Graphics, Terrible voice acting and bad controls. I say skip this one.

Rated E.

16 Levels.

Ladies and Gentlemen. I present to you... One of the worst games ever made!
vivifan26 June 2018
What an awful game. The developers should be ashamed to release such a bad game to the public. Everything about this game is flawed from it's terrible graphics, to the music, to the controls, to the voice acting of bubsy that makes you want to kill him in the most brutal way as possible! It's boring, full of bugs, full of terrible writing and jokes that bubsy likes to say every two seconds. My point is don't waste your time with this game unless you want to see how bad it is. This game has nothing going for it and is a waste of time.

Nothing possibly went wrong, this game rocks, oh my god, this is so good, its like if cousins for life (one of the best and most well made shows ever made) was a game, which is 10000000% a complement. I like the Part Where the game ends! i wish bubsy was real.

EVERYTHING could go wrong, Bubsy! And it DID!
MrPaull03247 May 2024
This is definitely one of the worst video games I have ever played. Even though I only rented it from Blockbuster way back in the day as a kid, I still can't emphasize how much I wanted to return it and get my money back after playing it for only twenty minutes.

The plot is pretty simple. Bubsy Bobcat is abducted by the Woolies in their attempt to invade Earth and steal all of its yarn. However, Bubsy manages to escape and must fight his way across 18 different, Woolie infested stages, and find a way back to Earth by collecting atoms and space rocket parts.

Basically, this game failed miserably in every way Super Mario 64 and Crash Bandicoot succeeded when all three came out in 1996.

First of all, Bubsy is completely insufferable. His character model is ugly, and his big, toothy grin is borderline creepy. His voice is the most annoying I've ever heard in a video game. Seriously, every time he spoke, it felt like someone was puncturing my eardrums with needles! His constant spouting of lame jokes and cat puns only made me despise him even more.

The graphics were terrible, even for its time. The animation was low-framed and jerky. And the level designs and landscape were largely bland and untextured, making them look completely dull. In fact, it felt like the game was only half-way finished and a very clunky prototype was rushed onto the shelves.

The tank controls made Bubsy's movements stiff and awkward, especially when jumping from one platform to another. Combined with the confusing camera angles, this made navigating through the poorly designed levels a nightmare.

The music is repetitive and almost as annoying as Bubsy himself. It gets even worse whenever an enemy is nearby, which will probably make up half the time you waste playing this heap of garbage.

Whether it's on an ancient but functional PS1 or an emulator, do NOT play Bubsy 3D if you value your time and sanity.

A war crime to humanity
viggostaf9 February 2024
Awful game, the graphics have aged really badly, it looks like a showcase in 1991. The gameplay is so boring and annyoing. The sound effects are very very bad, feels like the effects had been exported 9000 times, they sound so compressed. The game is the worst thing ever made, I had the game when i was young it made me so mad and i wish horrors upon the creators of the game. The story? Does not exist basically, it is like asking an early AI for a story for a retro game. If this was the launch game for the PS1 then it would have chrashed. I really hate this game, please never buy it. It is torture.

Bubsy 3D Review
carolstewart-1465016 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
OK this is one of the worst games ever! Let's start off with the graphics. They look like a prototype game and are textureless. They are plain, textureless graphics. The game controls horribly. It uses tank controls. IN A 3D PLATFORMER! The camera is not as bad as people make them out to be but it is still annoying. The bosses are not actually too bad but can be cryptic. EVERYTHING OTHER THAN THE BOSSES SUCKS HOWEVER! At least the platforming can be kind of challenging sometimes.

Bubsy, you could have stayed in 2D...
zzissizz17 March 2024
Bubsy 3D, an awkward, messy, distorted, warped, unplayable, and badly aged platform game from birth.

I wonder, though, why they made a 3D game if they didn't have the skills to do it? Why would they want to rival super Mario 64 with a game that was poor in content? Questions that will probably never be answered.

Which then the 2D games in my opinion were really good, why ruin a character like Bubsy?

In the game then Bubsy has a really annoying voice and never stops talking.

Not to mention the game's controls, which every time you jump you have to make the sign of the cross and hope it goes into the right platforms.

The game environment then, really lazy even for the first PlayStation, graphically nonexistent.

In short if you want to hurt yourself play it!

Not A Perfect 3D Platformer But Not Close To Being One Of The Worst Games
jimmydragtron6 May 2017
As 3D games were becoming the norm in the mid-1990s, a number of well-known characters were making the transition, and Bubsy is one of those characters. While Bubsy creator Mike Berlyn had no experience in making 3d games, I could tell he certainly put up a great effort. However, the game was so not well received by game reviewers. Because of this, Berlyn and his team were probably demoralized from making more games in the Bubsy series. Since then, Bubsy 3D (and in some cases the character) have been severely put down and meanly ridiculed by net users.

If there's a problem I see in game reviewers sometimes, that is they tend to give their reviews after playing the game for only five minutes. A game can be difficult at first, but If you get a little familiar with it, then it will be easy or less troubling.

When I was about to play this game on my PS3 (which is compatible with PS1 games), I was having low expectations because of the excessive negativity surrounding the game. But when I played it, the game didn't turn out to be as bad as they say. Bubsy moves smoothly, and grabs on floating platforms really good.

When it comes to jumping on enemies, I used to get unwanted results like overshooting or undershooting the target, and therefore taking damage in the process. However, it didn't take me very long to become adept and accurate with my jumps.

Perhaps the main concern is the way Bubsy needs to be rotated before going in another direction because this might leave him vulnerable to being attacked. Well, with sufficiently quick reaction and proper planning, this should be almost not a problem. And contrary to what some gamers say, it is actually possible to steer Bubsy while he's running.

As for the graphics, the ones in the first round may look unappealing. However, they start to look a little better as you go into the later rounds. True, the graphics maybe a total departure to the naturalistic designs used in the previous Bubsy games. But if anyone wants to know with regards to the game's appearance, these are called polygons. Polygons are a technique used in vintage 3D games. Polygons may not display curves on shapes very well but at least the character moves smoother and faster. Bubsy may look a little weird because of this but it's not that bad. In fact, I think they give him what I like to call a surreal look. Also I don't think the graphics of other polygon games like Virtua Racing and the first Virtua Fighter game are any better than this one. And considering that the game is set on an alien planet, weird stuff like the trees and checkered terrain shouldn't surprise anyone.

Despite what some may say about the controls, I didn't find the game too difficult. In fact, I managed to finished it in only a month. So what I would say is this. Bubsy 3D is not a perfect 3D platformer but not worthy of being labeled one of the worst. Also, I enjoyed playing it. The feel of this game is sorta similar to that of Blinx, a highly regarded 3D game.

I enjoyed the music but game play was clunky
crosswalkx25 April 2013
Hello there as you know I have played Bubsy 3d. A Playstation game that was poorly received. I'm very sorry that those people who worked hard at the game have been blasted at game reviewers.

I enjoyed the story plot, Bubsy who wears a shirt but no pants so you see his fur naked bottom. I enjoyed the eerie music it was the best music and Bubsy who talked like a crazy cartoon character.

My only complaint about this game was Bubsy couldn't turn very well and he was bouncy which bobbled the camera up and down. It was a little hard but I won it in the end. I'm sorry the game was rushed, I hope one day it will get fixed.

Truly the BEST game of all time
calebjkropf31 December 2021
The graphics, music, and most of all the gameplay... this is truly the game ever. It is so fun. It so fun you will poop your pants multiple times in your playthrough. The story is amazing but I will not spoil this masterpeice for you. All the levels are crafted absolutely perfectly. I do not know what to say. Also, this game has the power to cure cancer and other diaseses. All in all, this is the greatest thing to ever exist.

Ehhh....
alexmpw19 July 2017
What can I say about Bubsy 3D that hasn't been said already? I can very well cite the cheap voice acting (sorry, Mrs. Minella), the flat- shaded and ill-textured graphics, the smooth but difficult tank-like controls (if I recall right, the game was made for the original PS1 Controllers, which had no analog sticks), the nauseating camera angles and the imprecise control of the atoms (which function as coin and bullet).

And yet, I like Bubsy 3D. Yes, I said that. It may be frustrating, difficult and exasperating, but something about it makes me like it. Maybe it's because it was the first game I remember playing. Maybe it's because I find the poor graphics charming. Maybe I like the funny death animations. Maybe it's because I find every one of Bubsy's quotes painfully hilarious. Maybe it's because I find the game hilarious anyway.

If you are up to a frustrating yet comedic game to spend your time with, I'd give Bubsy 3D a look. I mean, come on, what could possibly go wrong? (sigh)

It maybe not perfect, but its my third favorite ps1 game.
byeguysbye2 June 2020
So, Okay. You may disagree but, It's my third favorite ps1 game. Sure the maps look more like tech demos, barely any textures, etc, but there's a lot of stuff I enjoy. I'm gonna do the highlights. The cutscenes, some of the gameplay, and the death animations. And also, keep in mind this is a early 3d game. and some of the developers where not very advanced at the time. overall, it gets an 8-star.

Not as bad as the internet says. It's kinda fun but requires patients and an open mind
lewisdabson11 June 2020
Bubsy 3D is known for being one of the worst games of all time. Why tho? Three reasons it's graphics, voice of bubsy and it's controls/camera. I wanted to see what all the hate was so i got the game and played it all the way through and it wasn't bad. No really it wasn't as bad as i thought it was going to be. It isn't perfect and it does have it's flaws but here we go. The music is good and gets better in the later stages, sound effects are fine, graphics are not impressive but for an early ps1 game it was ok. It's colorful and it's really strange but the plot is based around a ailen planet. The story is simple and not it's strong point but game storys never really mattered to me. Voice of bubsy is stupid, corny, funny and strange but i know people will find it annoying i think it adds some personality to him and it's kinda cute. Plus if you don't like his voice you have the option to switch it of. Gameplay is kinda fun once you get the controls down, it's mostly reponsive, it's camera does decent when you are running around but it's akward when you are jumping since it moves top of bubsy. The game provides fun challenges and never feels cheap. It's controls are tank like but after playing it more it becomes much easier over time. Boss fights are enjoyable too. Good lenght since it has 18 stages and a password system to get back if you lose all your lives. It's load times are fine too. The game runs fine as well. I don't think the game is that bad once you get it's controls down. You can turn bubsy's voice of, graphics don't make a game since it's all about the gameplay. The game does have it's flaws, but i would give it a look if you are patient you might be surprised

An underrated PS1 classic
Super-master33226 August 2021
Bubsy 3D did manage to be much better than that garbage we had for the Atari Jaguar in 1994. It presents us with considerably better gameplay than the previous games in the series, and now with open worlds. Without a doubt, its improved band is even better than Super Mario 64. Here you will no longer hear recycled songs, but rather much better variants than listening to that loop again. Something quite good is that it was one of the few PS1 games that gave passwords if you didn't have the memory card. I recommend taking a look at it, it is worth giving it a chance as it is a VERY underrated game for its graphics based on an alien planet in the Looney Tunes style..
