The Mystery Lodge opened at Knott's Berry Farm in 1994. The presentation within was inspired by the General Motors "Spirit Lodge" pavilion at Expo 86 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, a live show augmented with Pepper's ghost and other special effects; it was among the most popular exhibits (produced by Bob Rogers of BRC Imagination Arts and created with the assistance of the Kwakiutl Native reserve in the village of Alert Bay, British Columbia) at Expo 86. The Mystery Lodge show at Knott's recreates a quiet summer night in Alert Bay, then guests "move inside" the longhouse and listen to the storyteller weave a tale of the importance of family from the smoke of the bonfire.
As of June 2019, The Mystery Lodge at Knott's Berry Farm has been closed for refurbishment, with no re-opening date yet to be determined.
