In a 2003 interview, the filmmakers said that the film was part of a much larger project that included story lines about mobsters, vice cops, vampires, and zombies. This was taken as a joke by the interviewer, as the short was nothing like any of that. In mid-2005, they aired a half hour "making of" special on local daytime TV, that included clips of all of these things. Despite being obviously comical in nature, the special became the subject of some controversy as it included scenes of a zombie eating human innards, and several shootings that appeared excessively violent.
The film is broken into four parts, each marked by an on-screen letter: A, B, C, D.
- The 'A' in "Malixous presents..." appears for a moment before the rest of the letters.
- When Greg is standing outside waiting for Diamond, he is standing in front of a sign marking building "B".
- The "C" appears as graffiti on a store wall.
- Finally, the "D" appears as another building marker. As part of a lengthy introduction at The Saints and Sinners Film Festival, filmmaker Mike Balmer said that he added the letters so that preschoolers could follow along - or at least people who are really drunk.
The movie poster was inspired by the poster for Rain Man (1988). The director asked that it be reminiscent, but to include a style that is true to Diamond and Greg. It was originally intended that Diamond carry a guitar to parallel the duffle bag carried by Tom Cruise; however, this was discarded as it was felt that it would take away from one of the major jokes in the film.
