The project required more than 4,000 extras during filming.

Although Sean Bean (Sharpe) and Toby Stephens (Dodd) are enemies in this series, they have both played enemies of James Bond (Bean in GoldenEye (1995) and Stephens in Die Another Day (2002)). Interesting to note is that Pierce Brosnan was Bond on both occasions.
The story is a loose adaptation of Bernard Cornwell's India trilogy - Sharpe's Tiger, Sharpe's Triumph, and Sharpe's Fortress - covering Sharpe's early military career. While those books were set between 1799 and 1803, this and Sharpe's Peril move the action to 1817, after the Napoleonic Wars.
Many of the original actors returned to reprise their roles, such as Daragh O'Malley as Patrick Harper and Hugh Fraser as Lord Wellington.
