This was the first Polish film I was watching, and going by the lofty cinematic standards set by Europeans I was expecting another beautifully crafted gritty drama depicting the pain of modern life- I was hardly disappointed. The film involves 3 parallel subplots( Silesia,Warsaw, The Sea) and depicts the changing lifestyle in Poland as viewed by three ambitious youngsters. Equipped with an unbelievably talented cast of young actors , Ode to Joy succeeds on every possible level of film-making. It is quite obvious that the script has been prepared with a lot of sensitivity and the direction and acting is flawless. What more could one ask from cinema?
