After three excellent weeks in limited release, American Sniper expanded nationwide on Friday and earned a stunning $30.5 million. This the largest single day ever in January; the previous record belonged to Avatar, which took in $25.8 million on January 2nd, 2010. It's also 77 percent higher than the previous opening day record, which belonged to Cloverfield ($17.2 million). Finally, American Sniper's opening was over twice as big as last year's Lone Survivor and Ride Along (both at $14.4 million). With great word-of-mouth ("A+" CinemaScore), Sniper should play well through the rest of the weekend. Even if it takes a big drop against tough competition from the NFL conference championship games on Sunday, it should still wind up over $80 million for the three-day weekend. If it plays like past Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend releases Contraband and Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, it will reach $100 million on Monday. In a distant second place, The Wedding Ringer...

The top three won't budge, thanks to distributors wary of Euro 2012, while Rock of Ages crumbles and Red Lights flickers out
The immovable objects
For the third successive week, the top three places at the UK box-office are occupied by Prometheus, Men in Black 3 and Snow White and the Huntsman. The current market is the most becalmed since January 2010, when Avatar, Sherlock Holmes and Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel dominated over a lengthy period. It's a case of strong product arriving for the half-term holiday, followed by two successive weekends of weaker films, with studios deterred by competition for eyeballs from Euro 2012 football. Prometheus leads the pack with a solid £19.45m, ahead of the likes of X-Men 3: The Last Stand (£19.22m) and Angels and Demons (£18.79m) in the all-time UK rankings. Top earner for the year remains The Avengers, in 17th place in the all-time chart, with £50.96m.

I thought we’d covered this film previously on this site, but a search revealed that we most certainly have not, so here it is, along with news that it will be released in theaters this May.
The gist of it…
It’s called 35 And Ticking, an ensemble romantic comedy written and directed by Russ Parr, and starring Nicole Ari Parker, Tamala Jones, Kevin Hart, Keith Robinson, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Meagan Good, Mike Epps and Clifton Powell.
Plot? Victoria (Tamala Jones), Zenobia (Nicole Ari Parker), Cleavon (Kevin Hart), and Phil (Keith Robinson), 4 friends approaching the age of 35, are all struggling to build the families they’ve always dreamed of. While Zenobia is still looking for a man, Victoria is married to a man who doesn’t want children. Clevon, meanwhile, is too geeky to get a woman, and Phil is already married with children, but his wife is not very interested in being a mother.
