The chap leading the horse down the hill in the film is Maurice Duff. Maurice died in a road accident in 1978 at the age of twenty. He was not acting in the film just passing by.
Done on a budget of £20,000. Funding came from Dublin Corporation, RTE, the British Film Institute and the Arts Council.
Caused controversy as an RTE programme "7 Days", made years earlier, had cast Ballyfermot in a negative light. Locals believed this film would have the same effect. A copy of the original book was always kept on hand and people were asked to read it before making any judgement.
Local Ballyfermot artist Liam Weldon performed his own song "Dark Horse In The Wind".
The apples in the orchard scene were held into the trees with very long hair clips.
