"Der Ruf der Berge" (90-minute television film from 10 years ago) is one of these mountain harmony films with some drama (with ridiculous over-the-top dramatic music), some love story, but no really convincing character development. Also, there are quite a few bad cringeworthy quotes in there. One would be "There is more traffic than on route 66". Also, they started randomly German sentences with "alright". Or "You should stay here for the night so I can watch your symptoms". Franz Buchriser actually did a good job as he seemed unlikeable from minute 1, even when we could still have thought he is the protagonist's friend. Another thing worth watching this for are the beautiful mountain landscapes and a cute dog. However, if you are in the mood for this, you can also go for nature documentaries.
The film's director Bettina Braun is pretty experienced and has already won a Grimme award. The film's writer Maximilian Krückl has also worked other mountain-related films (including the sequel for this one), but is really more of an actor and also plays one of the main characters here. Lead actor Siegfried Rauch you may have seen in "Patton", "Das Traumschiff" or "Der Bergdoktor". By now, he has acted for roughly 60 years already, 50 years when this was made. He is also featured in almost all the dramatic scenes involving dangerous situations in the mountains for people and dogs. And there are several love stories and an arson sub-plot. This film lacks focus for the most part sadly. Not recommended.
