The Portuguese-language show End of the Line is a multi-camera sitcom that brings the comfort of an old-school live studio audience’s reaction to a generic family drama. The show follows Ivan, a van driver (how hilarious!), who has been separated from his wife for the majority of their 20-year marriage because he simply doesn’t know how to live a responsible life. He’s been mooching off of his wife for the longest time, somehow still living in the same house as her. Their son, Ivandro, on the other hand, happens to be in love with the rich heiress of a businessman. Ivandro, who is 18 years old, seems quite serious about his girlfriend Ju, while Sandra is completely fed up with Ivan. She’s finally made the decision to get divorced for real, so will they stay married or will Sandra follow through?

I solemnly swear that, as a non-fan of comedy, I watched End of the Line with an open mind. Personally, I’m not the biggest fan of double-entendres in general, and when they come from adults, they’re especially uninspiring and drab. End of the Line is a Portuguese-language sitcom that is recorded in front of a live audience and tells the story of a man named Ivan who is estranged from his wife and drives a van around. The Brazilian show is very clearly a local show that takes inspiration from the very real lives of Brazilian citizens. While some situations are quite universal, most of the time, the humor is quite culturally significant. For fans of comedy, I suppose it would still be of interest; however, for someone like me, it felt like a complete waste of time. Ivan and Sandra, his wife, are on the verge of...

The Bloody Disgusting-powered Screambox is home to a variety of unique horror content, from originals and exclusives to cult classics and documentaries. With such a rapidly-growing library, there are many hidden gems waiting to be discovered.
Here are five recommendations you can stream on Screambox right now.
The Collector
If the triumphant return of the Saw franchise has you in the mood for more trap-laden horrors, look no further than The Collector — which was originally conceived as a prequel to Saw that would show Jigsaw’s original story. When producers passed on the idea, writers Patrick Melton & Marcus Dunstan (Saw IV-vii) reworked it into an original script, which Dunstan directed in 2009.
A slasher/home invasion hybrid for the so-called “torture porn” era, The Collector stars Criminal Minds‘ Josh Stewart as struggling ex-con Arkin. A planned heist at his new employer’s home to repay a debt becomes deadly when he...

A nearly unrecognizable Sofia Vergara playing a cartel boss, a new retelling of the story of the Uruguayan rugby team that crash-landed in the Andes in 1972, Kevin Hart assembling a team for a daring heist and Dan Levy dealing with loss and grief are among the standout projects hitting Netflix this January.
Spanish director J.A. Bayona’s Society of the Snow lands on Netflix on Jan. 4. The film is the latest cinematic retelling of the miraculous story of the Uruguayan rugby team that crash-landed on a glacier in the heart of the Andes in 1972, with the survivors being forced to resort to extreme measures to stay alive. After debuting in Venice, Society of the Snow has picked up plenty of awards on the international film festival circuit, and it recently made the shortlists in four categories for the 2024 Academy Awards, including best international feature film.

It’s a quiet month on Netflix in January, but the streamer still has some good stuff lined up for the new year, including an interesting documentary about the Centra Tech cryptocurrency scam. Bitconned arrives on the first of the month alongside Netflix’s latest Harlan Coben adaptation, Fool Me Once, which sees an ex-soldier called Maya witness her husband’s murder on a nanny cam. The crime then leads her down a deadly path where she uncovers a deadly conspiracy.
Schitt’s Creek star Daniel Levy will also debut his first film as writer and director with Good Grief on Netflix this month. The movie follows Levy’s character Marc as he does some soul-searching after the death of his husband.

The 2023-2024 primetime television season looked nothing like previous years, with reruns, unscripted shows, and international imports populating broadcast networks’ lineups. The WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, though undeniably justified, took quite a toll on all the networks. Fortunately, the strikes have been settled, production has begun on nearly every new and returning series, and the midseason January lineup hints that things are slowly returning to normal.
Here’s a look at the shows scheduled to launch their new season – or series – premieres in January 2024. NBC’s Chicago shows – Chicago Fire, Med, and P.D. – will kick off new seasons on January 17th, with the Law & Order franchises returning on January 18th. New highly anticipated series debuting in January include Echo, Expats, Masters of the Air, The Brothers Sun, and Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale.

Joanie has got to be one of the most unlikable characters on all of television.
However, it's easy to admit that her storyline is by far the most interesting one on The Affair Season 5.
The Affair Season 5 Episode 6 was all about Joanie, and the result was an hour focused on how the young girl we said goodbye to became a woman.
Joanie is more like her mother than she would like to believe. She resented Alison for dying when she was so young because Joanie thinks that her childhood was over the moment she died.
Even more frustrating for Joanie was that she was under the impression her mother committed suicide. Technology is advancing every day, but the nifty weather app Joanie had on her glasses was something else.
We already know that cold cases can be solved years later, thanks to the technological advancements. That's what made that particular...

Fear the Walking Dead season 5 showrunners Andrew Chambliss and Ian Goldberg on a major sea change for the show.
This Fear the Walking Dead feature contains spoilers.
To paraphrase the Grateful Dead, what a long strange season it’s been for Fear the Walking Dead. Indeed, Season 5 has been a tumultuous one, alternating between serious drama and unintended camp.
Through it all, the one constant has been Morgan’s mission to bring a bit of optimism to the end times. Fans may not have always been on board with the show’s altruistic turn, and yet, it’s admirable how showrunners Andrew Chambliss and Ian Goldberg remained committed to a kinder, gentler zombie apocalypse.

The made-for-tv movie was a programming staple for the broadcast networks in the 1970s and 1980s. While it fell out of favor in the 1990s and was even dropped as an Emmy Awards category for three years beginning in 2011, it has been on an upswing as of late. This year, 21 telefilms are in contention for the five nominations that will be revealed on July 12.
All 22,000 plus voting members of the TV academy have until June 24 to cast their 2019 Emmy Awards nominations ballots for their favorite TV movies. In the past, voters were limited in the number of telefilms that they could put forth. In 2017 that cap (which was usually 10 per category) was lifted. And, as opposed to the Oscars, voters for the Emmys do not rank their choices and nominees are determined by a simple tally.

Four years after AMC’s “Mad Men” went off the air, nine-time Emmy winner Matthew Weiner is back in the awards conversation for his anthology series “The Romanoffs.” The truly inventive Amazon Prime program tells the story of various descendants of the infamous Russian royal family living in today’s world, with each of its can’t-miss episodes focusing on a different cast and story. Instead of entering the program as Best Limited Series at the 2019 Emmys, the streaming service has opted to submit three of its eight segments as Best TV Movie: “End of the Line,” “The Violet Hour” and “House of Special Purpose.” Will Emmy voters welcome Weiner back to their exclusive party this year?

The far-right has now aggressively infiltrated the politics of countless nations, developed and otherwise, advocating malicious rhetoric that targets vulnerable groups, preaches ethnocentrism, and weaponizes religion. Outside of what happened in the United States in 2016, last year’s presidential election in Brazil, which crowned a candidate holding such extreme views, is a testament to the harmful powers of alarmist populism.
Although produced prior to the recent rise of these traditionalist forces in the country, Brazilian animated feature “Tito and the Birds” is a shrewd response to bigotry, packaged as a spooky adventure achieved through the integration of artisanal and digital techniques. The outcome is a stylistically singular treasure with tonal and aesthetic hints of Laika’s horror-inspired “ParaNorman” and the animated Van Gogh biopic “Loving Vincent.”

The Romanoffs Episode 7
Seven episodes in, I think I’m ready to call It on The Romanoffs. Despite an all-star ensemble, exotic locations, and a concept that theoretically should have freed up Matthew Weiner to tell ambitious, diverse stories, The Romanoffs is a staid, uninspiring slog that positions Weiner’s last great TV project as a miraculous fluke. Don’t expect any critics to still be talking about this one come next month’s End of Year debates, unless they’re discussing the year’s biggest disappointments. What’s truly sad is that “End of the Line” is one of the better installments in the series, yet like past episodes it frustratingly features the same highs and lows.

When Refinery29 premiered its Shatterbox Anthology in August of 2016, the new program was anchored by a forward-thinking concept: to “create short films that redefine identity, imagination, and storytelling through the female lens.” In their first “season,” they made a dozen films with a dozen female directors. Now, they’ve unveiled their second series of short films from female directors, including new offerings from Yara Shahidi, Gillian Jacobs, Jessica Sanders, A.M. Lukas (aka Anna Martemucci), Allana Harkin, Gilly Barnes, Ivy Agregan, and Janine Sherman Barrois.
Alongside partner TNT, the second season of Shatterbox (as its known these days) kicked off with a Tiff screening earlier this month, but the full series is already available online for interested viewers. This second season consists of 8 wide-ranging short-form films helmed by female directors, from a new take on “The Red Balloon” to a timely story about immigration and even a wild digital tale about viruses gone crazy.

If we (and we do mean the royal we) weren’t excited for “The Romanoffs” before, we certainly are now, as Amazon has released a batch of first look photos and the Season 1 episode lineup for Matthew Weiner’s new anthology series.

Meet the Romanoffs.
Amazon has released several first look images of the new anthology series from “Mad Men” creator Matthew Weiner, along with a lineup for each of the eight episodes, each of which features different cast members.
“The Romanoffs” marks the first Amazon series to be rolled out on a weekly basis: The first two episodes, “The Violet Hour” and “The Royal We,” will debut on Friday, October 12, with subsequent episodes following each week.
“The Romanoffs,” which is created, written, directed and executive produced by Weiner, features eight separate stories about people in contemporary times who believe themselves to be descendants of the Russian royal family. The show’s first trailer, which was released earlier this month, features the sprawling cast discussing their connection to the Romanov family. Each story centers around a new cast in a new location, set in seven countries around the globe.

The Brazilian animated feature “Tito and the Birds,” which makes its North American premiere at Tiff, has been picked up for distribution by Shout! Studios (“Big Fish & Begonia”) for Oscar consideration.
This exquisite-looking movie, about a 10-year-old boy who saves the world from an epidemic of fear, was created by Split Studio in Brazil with oil paintings (like last year’s innovative “Loving Vincent”), digital drawings, and graphic animation.
“Tito and the Birds” was directed by animation newcomer Gustavo Steinberg (the live-action “End of the Line”), Gabriel Bitar (“Cidade Cinza”), and André Catoto (“Say I Am Only Seventeen”). In addition, it features an original score by Gustavo Kurlat and Binho Feffer (the Oscar-nominated “The Boy and the World”). The producers are Daniel Greco, Felipe Sabino, and Brenda Wooding.

Yes, you read that correctly: zero stars. When talented people create one of the worst movies ever made, you have to ask: What the hell happened? Terminal is a case in point. Here's another question: How did debuting filmmaker Vaughn Stein ever persuade Margot Robbie, just off her Oscar-nominated triumph in I, Tonya, to star in a script that plays like something Quentin Tarantino upchucked after watching Blade Runner while reading Alice in Wonderland and ingesting too many hallucinogens?
Set in an anonymous city that looks and feels like the soundstage it is,...

"Follow me down the rabbit hole...!" Rlje Film has released the full-length trailer for a very twisted, crazy cool, super stylish new assassins film called Terminal, formerly known as End of the Line in production. We previewed a teaser last week, but this full trailer is a must see, this looks unlike anything else this year. The film is the feature debut of director Vaughn Stein, and it stars Margot Robbie, as well as Simon Pegg, Mike Myers, Max Irons, and Dexter Fletcher. I can't really paraphrase this since it's just perfect, so here's the plot straight up: "Terminal follows two assassins with a sinister mission, a fatally ill teacher, an enigmatic janitor and a waitress with a double life. Murderous consequences unravel as their lives meet at the hands of a criminal mastermind wanting revenge." Damn this looks like a cinematic delight. See below. Dev Patel directs Armie Hammer in a stylish dark comedy. Don Hertzfeldt delivers a second installment of his award-winning animated saga. And Dime Davis documents artist Mark Bradford’s creativity in action. These are just a few of the treats to be found among the 69 live action, animated, and documentary shorts playing the 2018 Sundance Film Festival.
The Sundance programmers whittled the 69 official selections from 8,740 submissions (down 245 from the previous year). Making the cut were several shorts with recognizable talent in front of the lens: Simon Helberg and Brett Gelman suffer through an unbalanced relationship in Jessica Sander’s two-hander “End of the Line,” Lakeith Stanfield plays himself in Shaka King’s “Lazercism,” and Armie Hammer undertakes a supporting role as a television huckster in Dev Patel’s “Home Shopper.”

2017-09-07T09:59:25-07:00Is This the End of the Line for 'Veep'?
HBO's Veep has been a consistent darling of critics since it debuted six seasons ago, but those critics are going to have to learn to live without it very soon. The show's creators and its star, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, admitted this week that the series' upcoming seventh season will be its last. That could be bad news for HBO, whose top series, Game of Thrones, could be on hiatus until 2019 and whose most recent hits Westworld and Big Little Lies aren't airing new episodes any time soon, either.
Via The Hollywood Reporter.
Veep, HBO's acclaimed comedy, Emmy powerhouse and arguably the funniest comedy on television, will end its run with a final seventh season in 2018.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus just called to tell me the news, and I just told her she's killing me.

NCIS: New Orleans' "End of the Line" is going to bring up painful memories from Wade's past when a gruesome copycat murder on a streetcar reopens a former case. BuddyTV spoke to Cch Pounder to find out what to expect from this case.
"It was really nice for me to do something other than move a dead body," the actress shared when teasing the episode that sees a different side of Wade. And speaking of doing something different, while she pointed out that the nature of the crossovers doesn't allow for them to use the MEs that much since they're mostly about the action and chasing down someone, she'd love to "ruffle Mark Harmon's feathers because he's always been a very calm and steady character."...

Monday Night Raw is in the books. Following on the footsteps of Roadblock: End of the Line, what would be the state of the Raw brand as the days lead us to January 29th, 2017 and the Royal Rumble at the Alamo Dome?
The big news coming out of the show is the rematch for the WWE Universal Championship between champion Kevin Owens vs United States Champion Roman Reigns. Chris Jericho, in an attempt to prevent him from interfering in the match, will be suspended over the ring in a shark cage. Anyone with a cursory knowledge of wrestling will remember that stipulation matches like this seem to always find the person locked in said cage finding a way to get a weapon of some sort to the person he supports allowing them to get the victory. WWE: Roadblock-End of the Line is in the books. As a night that promised to close the chapter on some feuds on the Raw brand, for the most part the event didn’t disappoint. Here are the results of the matches and my thoughts.
Rusev vs Big Cass (Kickoff Show Match)
As I dreaded, this match was a dud thanks to Rusev. I could honestly care less about his character. While Lana is definitely a lovely woman, looks can only take you so far in the pro wrestling business. The entire setup for the match seemed stolen from 1980’s era wrestling. The only entertaining part of the match was the usual great mic work from Enzo before the match started. Thankfully it was over pretty quick. Lana distracts Enzo who gets taken out by Rusev. Big Cass checks on his friend only to get counted out. Big whoop. The...

This Sunday on the WWE Network, Roadblock: End of the Line, a Raw exclusive special event, will air. As of this writing, there are seven matches advertised for the show. I’ll discuss the lineup for the show as well as who I think should win.
Kevin Owens vs Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Championship
Roman Reigns has been in a tough spot for a while now. It’s clear based on how he’s been booked the past couple years that the WWE see money in his future. They want him to be the next big attraction. Yet the audience had not taken the bait, more often than not booing him out of the building. He’s not a bad performer at all in my opinion. The biggest issue I have with him is his lack of charisma. He’s boring on the mic. Not everyone has the...

A review of tonight's The Americans coming up just as soon as I take my antibiotic and a nap... "It's never been this bad. It's worse every day." -Gabriel When Alias revealed that Sydney Bristow had been missing in action for two years, or when Battlestar Galactica leaped forward a year in mid-scene, the idea of a huge time jump was still shocking. Over a decade later — after shows as diverse as Lost, Desperate Housewives, Hannibal, Parks and Recreation, Masters of Sex, and Catastrophe have skipped ahead either between seasons or during them — the idea is just another commonly-accepted tool in any showrunner's tool kit, so that fans often predict their favorite series will use it as the only way out of a current story arc. The device has become so familiar, in fact, that where once it dropped jaws, it now risks eliciting shrugs. What makes the seven-month time...

The Russian language film Diggers has a new trailer. The film takes place beneath Moscow, in an old subway station and route. Here, a train has missed its stop and people have gone missing; a search party has gone in to rescue the missing passengers, but they have found something malevolent in the dark. Diggers is from director Tikhon Kornev (Mamy). And, the film stars Roman Evdokimov and Anna Vasilyeva. The exciting trailer for the film is hosted here. The film looks similar to another, End of the Line (2007). Both films take place deep below ground. While it does not appear that there is a religious, doomsday cult in Diggers, both films feature a dangerous situation, in a confining subway tunnel. As well, a release date for Diggers is still forthcoming. But, it will be posted here, once announced. Release Date: Tba. Director: Tikhon Kornev. Cast: Roman Evdokimov, Anna Vasilyeva Alena Savastova,...

Keeping up to date on all things Walking Dead means more than just reading the comic and watching the TV show. Sometimes it means living it as well.
