Mit dem Ungewohnten fängt es an, die 3D-Brille. Der Blick durch diese Brille ist noch nicht optimal, doch was man dann geboten bekommt, stellt vieles in den Schatten. Hat man sich an die neue Art des Sehens gewöhnt, bekommt man einen tollen Film zu sehen. Hat man sich in die Geschichte hinein versetzt, fiebert man mit den Protagonisten mit. Auch die Na'vi wachsen einem schnell ans Herz. Aber nun ein wenig echte Kritik, zuerst die Positive: Die Bilder sind toll, die Animationen wirken sehr plastisch und verhalten sich realitätsnah (sofern man dieses für Bewegungen auf anderen Planeten sagen kann), die Schauspieler sind gut gewählt und machen ihre Arbeit gut, in den computeranimierten Avataren erkennt man sie schnell wieder. Die Musik trägt viel zu der Atmosphäre bei. Auch die Länge des Filmes fällt nicht ins Gewicht, wird man über die Zeit doch gut unterhalten. So, nun noch etwas Negatives: Einige Elemente der Geschichte sind nicht neu, aber die "Würzung", der Einsatz in den neuen Elementen der Geschichte, macht dieses Manko zu einem Verzeichlichen! James Cameron hat zwar nicht das hinbekommen, was er damals mit Titanic geschafft hat, aber er ist nahe dran, schon alleine die Bilder und die neuen Techniken sind faszinierend und der Besuch lohnt auf jeden Fall!
