Plenty of excellent content here, strong episode.

After taking a pasting in Space from The Federation forces, Blake receives a summons from Travis to visit the planet Exbar, the reason, Inga.

Series two has generally been of a very high content, and whilst Hostage isn't perhaps up there with Pressure Point and Killer, it's still a very good watch.

Finally The Liberator gets a bit of a battle, I've spent years wondering why The Federation didn't just go after The Liberator with numbers, this one explains the lack of logic by The Federation.

As always the scenes of Servalan in her Office are terrific, what an actress with an intense charisma, and so incredibly beautiful. Great also to see Kevin Stoney, sci fi suited him very well.

I really like the design of The Mutoids, if Dr Who had ever brought The Drahvin back from Galaxy 4, this is pretty much how I'd expected them to be. The crimos are great also, very Mad Maxesque.

I may have slightly more regard for this episode than some of the reviewers here, I enjoyed it quite a lot. Far from perfect, the main faults here, firstly Avon's sudden willingness to help Blake seems slightly odd, secondly I found Inga a little predictable, and finally, perhaps the biggest flaw, I thought Travis was a little too cartoon like, he looks impressive, but Greif had more subtlety in his villainy.

8/10.

A good episode but not an exceptional one.

Warning: Spoilers
John Abinieri - who replaced both Duncan Lamont, who died during filming, and Ronald Lewis, who was taken ill - is great as Ushton and, while she goes a bit over the top at times, Judy Buxton is good as Inga. Her relationship with Blake is bit...what's the polite word? Odd? Brian Croucher's shout-acting - particularly "THE WORD! THE WORD!" - was rather laughable. I just kept thinking about how much better Stephen Grief would have played it. This is the second consecutive episode in which Jenna and Cally are sidelined with most of the focus being on Blake, Avon and Vila. It seems a bit unusual that, now they're a man down, Jenna and Cally are getting less screen time as opposed to more.

Cowboys And Indians In Space

Warning: Spoilers
After surviving a federation pursuit ship ambush Blake recivees a message from Travis who is now a fugitive from the Federation saying he has Blake's cousin Inga hostage on the Planet Exbar and threatens to kill her if he doesn't teleport down to the planet

Another episode by Allan Prior his second of the season and like the first one Horizon it's very generic . One criticism of the show is that it's very much like a Western set in space and though one can strongly dispute this it's impossible to dispute this is very much how the episode plays out . It's also an episode that plays up a little too much the generic prime qualities of the characters . By this I mean Blake is mainly heroic , Avon is mainly cynical and Vila is mainly cowardly etc . As 50 minutes of telefantasy entertainment it's okay but seems somewhat insipid and bland after a run of some very good episodes . That said the location filming does give the episode an appropriate gloom tone

I want a mutoid
bigfootmurf-723042 July 2020
This episode reminded me of the mutoids, the calm, obedient servants who never argue. I want one! Apart from that it had the usual elements: Travis out to get Blake, or more particularly the Liberator. I liked the Crimos, criminal psychopaths, but if they were so intelligent how come they were so easily overpowered and tricked, like Nazis in old war films. Blake's romantic interest in hostage Inga seems odd because I thought he said her father was his father's brother, which makes her his cousin. Not unheard of but rather Hapsburg. Jemma's jealousy was nicely hinted at.
