After the second season, a spin-off was planned titled "City Court". The intention was to follow the Jump Street cases through the court system. A two-hour pilot was planned, in which Tom Hanson is put on trial for murder. But, because of the 1988 writers' strike, the series was never produced. The storyline featuring Hanson's murder trial was later used for the third season finale.
The character of Booker was supposed to be killed off at the end of the third season. However, he proved so popular that he was spun off onto his own show Booker (1989).
The courtroom where Hanson is on trial was previously seen in the 1988 film The Accused starting Jodie Foster.
