- Tony Almeida: Tactical is at Richard's house: their going through his things right now
- Michelle Dessler: What about Jack?
- Tony Almeida: Jack and Curtis are on their way back
- Michelle Dessler: Someone has to tell Audrey Jack's going to be the one interrogating her brother
- Tony Almeida: Audrey's not going to want Jack near her brother
- Michelle Dessler: It can't be helped: Richard knows something that missile
- Tony Almeida: It's funny this morning Jack and Audrey were planning their future, now his responsible for her husband's death and he may have to torture her brother
- Michelle Dessler: And yet every move his made has been the right one
- Tony Almeida: Not if he wanted to be with her. Everything that's happened here today, it's been hard going through it with you again
- Michelle Dessler: It's been hard for me too
- Tony Almeida: And I look at what this job does to the people in our positions and I realize I want us to be together again but it's got to be away from all of this
- Michelle Dessler: You want us to leave our jobs?
- Michelle Dessler: [after he nods] we've spent the last twelve years of our lives doing this: where would we go? What would we do?
- Tony Almeida: I don't care. People start over every day, if it's important to them
- Michelle Dessler: You're asking me to leave the only thing I've ever done
- Tony Almeida: Yes, I am
- President Charles Logan: [Over the speakerphone] I've just been told there's a cruise missile containing a nuclear warhead?
- Jack Bauer: Yes Sir, that's correct: our military's tracking device is doing everything they can to find the trajectory of the missile but we don't have a lot to go on
- David Palmer: What about Marwan? You think he'll break?
- Jack Bauer: That won't be easy Sir: his planned and organized everything's that happened today. His committed to his cause, his prepared to die
- David Palmer: I know you'll do your best, keep us posted
- Jack Bauer: [Before hanging up] yes Sir I will
- David Palmer: [to Mike] let the Joints Chiefs know of the situation but tell them this should be limited to the intelligence community only
- Mike Novick: Sir, if a nuclear missile's been launched, we have to assume Washington is its target
- President Charles Logan: What are our options?
- Mike Novick: We don't have many: first priority is to establish a continuity of the government and start a quiet evacuation of government personnel in the city
- David Palmer: [to Mike] bring the Cabinet members and the Speaker of the House to the bunker. Congress and Pentagon should be taken to the mountain safety facility
- Mike Novick: Right
- David Palmer: [Before Mike leaves the room] let them know this is a Category One emergency: tell them nothing more. We can't afford an information leak
- President Charles Logan: The public needs to be warned, cities needs to be evacuated
- David Palmer: Not yet, let's see what Bauer comes up with first
- President Charles Logan: [after entering the room] please everybody be seated. I would like to apologize for the abrupt removal from your homes and offices please know that these precautions had to be taken to ensure the secrecy of your arrival: the US has been thrown into a Category One emergency. a cruise missile containing a nuclear warhead has been launched and is headed for we believe a major US city, very possibly Washington DC. Now all branches of the military have been altered and their doing everything in their power to locate the missile and to intercept it
- Don Ashton: Excuse me Sir, you're saying not only do we not know what the missile's target is but you don't even know where the missile is?
- President Charles Logan: That's correct
- Don Ashton: When do you plan on informing the public?
- President Charles Logan: As of this time, we feel informing the public wouldn't be in the country's best interest
- Don Ashton: We" meaning who Mr. President?
- President Charles Logan: "I" feel that way Mr. Speaker
- Don Ashton: Doesn't the public have a right to know the truth?
- President Charles Logan: That's all I have for now: when I know more, an update will be given, thank you
- Jack Bauer: [Sitting directly in front of him] you and I both know all I want to do right now is kill you: but I have my orders, we've run out of time, you win, I've been instructed to ask what you want
- Habib Marwan: What I want is already happening
- Jack Bauer: The death and destruction of innocent lives as a means to an end? Why don't we just skip to "the end"?
- Habib Marwan: To "the end?"
- Jack Bauer: Everything you did today: you did for a reason, for your people. What do you want to change?
- Habib Marwan: I have no interest in having a political discussion with you
- Jack Bauer: I am in a "unique" position to make things happen. I have the ear of the President of the United States. Right now, you have the power to make any kind of deal that you want and I promise you, you'll do more for you and your people if you cooperate with me than if you let that missile hit its target. You tell me where that missile is headed, you help me stop it, and I guarantee that you will talk to the President and he will listen to you: he has no choice. Right here, right now, you have the chance to get what you want
- Habib Marwan: I already have, Agent Bauer. After this day, every elected official and citizen of America will know that America cannot intervene in our lives, in our countries, with impunity. Besides, your President sees me in only one dimension: evil
- Jack Bauer: That's how you see us?
- Habib Marwan: Yes, and vulnerable
- Don Ashton: What's going on here?
- Mike Novick: Meaning what?
- Don Ashton: Logan was sworn in a few hours ago now we're under a massive terrorist attack. He needs all the help he can get
- Mike Novick: He understands that, his seeking advice from everywhere
- Don Ashton: Not from his Cabinet or the Congressional leadership
- Mike Novick: give it time Don, give it time
- Audrey Raines: [Talking privately] what is it?
- Jack Bauer: It's about your brother
- Audrey Raines: Is he alright?
- Jack Bauer: I assume he is, yeah
- Audrey Raines: What'd you mean?
- Jack Bauer: We just found out Habib Marwan got a call from Richard's cell phone a week ago
- Audrey Raines: I'm sorry but that's absurd
- Jack Bauer: We don't know what it means yet but Buchanan's sending a team over there now to pick him up
- Audrey Raines: My brother was already brought in once today and he was cleared
- Jack Bauer: Yeah I know but this call definitely connects him to Marwan and the missile
- Audrey Raines: I don't know how he got mixed up into this, but my brother is not a terrorist
- Jack Bauer: Richard's phone number was found on the receiving history on Marwan's sim card
- Audrey Raines: Does my father know about this?
- Jack Bauer: Buchanan's calling him right now
- Don Ashton: How's President Logan managing?
- Mike Novick: Under the circumstances: very well
- Don Ashton: I noticed ex-President Palmer is here with him
- Mike Novick: Yes, he brought the former President in to "advise"
- Don Ashton: That's probably a good idea: Palmer's been at the helm in this kind of crisis before, he knows how to lead
- Mike Novick: President Logan doesn't have any problem "leading" if that's what you're getting at?
- Don Ashton: Oh no, not at all: it's just that if his not asking his Cabinet for help or the leadership, it "comforts" me somewhat that his in good hands
- Mike Novick: Is there something else you wanted to say?
- Don Ashton: Yeah, there is. The people elected John Keeler to run this country, in his absence Logan is expected to take over, if his not up to the task, it is I, Speaker of the House, and not David Palmer who steps up
- Mike Novick: Understood and let me assure you that's not the case: Logan is in complete control
- Mike Novick: We may have a problem
- President Charles Logan: What is it?
- Mike Novick: Don Ashton has been asking a number of questions and raising concerns as to President Palmer's "role" here
- President Charles Logan: That's too bad: we have more important things to worry about at the moment
- Mike Novick: Sir, as Speaker of the House, he can create problems you don't need right now
- David Palmer: Mike's right, Don's very ambitious. Now that his next in line to the Presidency, he'll look to exploit any angle he can
- President Charles Logan: He won't put his ambition in front of national security
- Mike Novick: He won't see it in those terms Sir. In his eyes, national security and his personal ambition are one in the same
- President Charles Logan: [sighs] what'd we do?
- David Palmer: Show him who's in charge
- Richard Heller: [after she enters the interrogation room] please get me out of here: tell them I didn't do anything
- Audrey Raines: I want you to listen to me very carefully ok? A missile carrying a nuclear warhead was launched by this man Habib Marwan. Tell me what you know about him
- Richard Heller: I don't know what you're talking about
- Audrey Raines: CTU has proof you called him last week, last Tuesday at four in the morning
- Richard Heller: I don't know anything about a Habib Marwan or a missile, you've got to believe me
- Audrey Raines: That missile is in the air right now heading toward a city, please just tell me what you know
- Richard Heller: I told you, I don't know anything
- Audrey Raines: Why'd you make that phone call last week?
- Richard Heller: I didn't make a phone call
- Audrey Raines: It's not making sense: that call was made
- Richard Heller: I don't know where you get your information but its all bull
- Audrey Raines: I am begging you to talk to me alright? If you don't, there is a man that will come in here and get that information from you. I saw him torture someone today, it's what his trained to do. He won't stop hurting you until you tell him the truth please?
- Richard Heller: Don't let him do this to me
- Audrey Raines: Tell me what you know and they won't
- Richard Heller: What'd you want from me?
- Audrey Raines: Look at me, we have a chance to fix this
- James Heller: [while in the interrogation room, referring to if his going to tell them what he knows] now what's it going to be?
- Richard Heller: Go to hell. I didn't do anything wrong. I don't have to tell you anything
- James Heller: [Raises his voice] there's a nuclear warhead that's going to detonate somewhere over this country: those lost lives will be on your head. You will be a murderer
- Richard Heller: I didn't to do anything wrong, I swear
- James Heller: What did you do? Tell me what you did
- Richard Heller: A week ago, I was at a bar, there was this girl and her boyfriend ok?
- James Heller: Alright, what were their names?
- Richard Heller: I don't know: they wanted to party and we went back to my place, got high, then I guess there was time for one of them to make a call on my phone?
- James Heller: How?
- Richard Heller: When we were in bed
- James Heller: So while you were in bed with her, he used your phone in the other room?
- Richard Heller: I wasn't the one in the other room, I was in bed with him: she must've been the one who made the call
- James Heller: So you were set up?
- Richard Heller: Yeah, I guess so
- James Heller: Did they leave you with a number? Or an address?
- Richard Heller: No
- James Heller: What kind of car were they driving?
- Richard Heller: They didn't have one, I drove
- James Heller: Where did you drop them off afterwards?
- Richard Heller: I didn't, they took a cab
- James Heller: Do you remember the name of the cab company?
- Richard Heller: No, I don't. So now you know. I suppose you're even more disgusted with me?
- James Heller: This is not about how you choose to live your life, this is about how you put this country in jeopardy. If you told us this information yesterday, maybe these terrorist attacks may not have occurred
- Richard Heller: Don't put that on me because I didn't know that night had anything to do with these attacks
- James Heller: You should've told us everything
- Jack Bauer: [Over the phone] I know you don't want to talk to me but there's a few things I need to say
- Audrey Raines: Alright
- Jack Bauer: I know everything that's happened today: you've seen me do things before you thought were unimaginable
- Audrey Raines: I would've been happy to skip today
- Jack Bauer: Yeah me too. But the truth of it is I never believed you could really love me if you've known about everything I've done
- Audrey Raines: I can't...
- Jack Bauer: Please let me finish. Things were the things I was running away from, that's why I moved to DC, that's why I stopped doing field work, that's why I don't work at CTU
- Audrey Raines: All I know is your back in it and it's too much for me
- Jack Bauer: I know, the last thing I ever wanted to do is to push you away from me. I love you but this how the job that has to be done. I just wanted to let you know how sorry I am and that it had to involve the people you care about. You don't have to say anything now, please just promise me as soon as this is over, we can talk about everything that's happened
- President Charles Logan: [During a meeting with his senior advisers] gentlemen and ladies: considering the crisis we face today, I felt it was prudent to enlist the help of ex-President Palmer
- Jennie: In what capacity Sir?
- President Charles Logan: Excuse me?
- Don Ashton: Sir, everybody in this room has a title and a specific function, exactly what "position" will President Palmer be occupying?
- David Palmer: I'm here "solely" as an adviser, not only to the President, but to anyone else here who requests my counsel
- President Charles Logan: [to Don] President Palmer is outside the chain of command is what you're asking?
- Don Ashton: I'm just asking for clarification Sir
- President Charles Logan: The missile carrying the nuclear warhead was launched from a location in central Iowa, it's becoming more and more "likely" that the target is on or near one of the coasts
- Jennie: It's clearly going to be New York or DC: why aren't we evacuating those two cities?
- David Palmer: I disagree Jennie. It's not clear, and if you start to evacuate these two cities, then you may have unauthorized mass exodus of Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Atlanta. That's a situation the President shouldn't be dealing with
- Don Ashton: [to Palmer] maybe the "President" should be telling us that himself?
- President Charles Logan: [to Don] Mr. Speaker, I've discussed this option with a number of my domestic experts, including President Palmer and that's my assessment as well
- Don Ashton: What about air defense? We're going to stand by and let the airspace over these cities remain undefended?
- David Palmer: We have a limited number of F-18's intercepting jets at our disposal: they need to be augmenting the search for this missile, and not deployed in a "wait and see" mode
- Don Ashton: Mr. Palmer, I'm sure we all appreciate your desire to help but the Constitution has determined who the decision maker should be at this time, I think your overstepping your bounds
- David Palmer: In the first place, it's "Mr. President" Don, and it is the "content" of my statement you should be addressing...
- President Charles Logan: [Interrupts him] David, it's true, you are to be addressed as "President", it's an expression of respect but not a functional title
- David Palmer: I understand that Sir but you have to understand I've been through this crisis before
- President Charles Logan: Yes, but "we" are here now. The appointed and lawful representatives of the people of the United States
- David Palmer: Mr. President, I would... .
- President Charles Logan: [Interrupts him] David, there will be no more discussion on this matter, your point has been taken, however, Ashton has made a good point and I want to address his concerns
- David Palmer: Perhaps it's best I excuse myself?
