- Stuart is hired by talent agent Mildred De Witt on behalf of one of her clients, Sam Gurney, who hosts a popular local radio show. Sam's schtick is that he puts down his guests in what seem like less than friendly ways. Regardless, people agree to appear on his show as the publicity to them is worth the public put downs by Sam. The popularity of the radio show has led to Sam being offered a lucrative television contract. Mildred, who states that Sam is even more ballsy in private than he is on the radio including being open about cheating on his wife with various women, further states that he seems generally scared about something regarding the television deal, he who asked her to discover what happened to four people connected to a small town called Santa Marca, California, specifically whether the four are still alive or dead. Stuart's job is to do that legwork for her and why those four names mean so much to Sam with regard to this television deal. One by one, Stuart is able to find out what happened to each of the four on the list, those who he is able to speak to stating that they don't know Sam personally beyond the radio show. In the process of things perhaps not being what they appear on the surface, Stuart is implicated in murder. Gil knows that Stuart isn't guilty, but still has to do due diligence in bringing him into custody as a material witness to murder. Stuart believes he can do more good for himself going into hiding than turning himself in. With Jeff away, he has to rely on Kookie, Roscoe and Suzanne to be his eyes and ears to discover if this case is setting him up to take a fall, his three associates' task which may not be so easy with the police on their tails in hopes of one or all three leading them to Stuart.—Huggo
