Wrong theory
bkoganbing19 January 2017
Jacqueline Beer the French switchboard operator at 77 Sunset Boulevard is like family for Bailey&Spencer so when she asks the guys to check into the whereabouts of her brother who has gone missing Roger Smith takes the case.

The brother went missing after an automobile accident. His employer was killed and the brother who was his chauffeur was missing. The wife Carole Matthews who works at one of the Hollywood studios and she's waiting her insurance check which will have a double indemnity payoff.

There are some elements from the classic Billy Wilder film here. But Jeff Spencer is operating on a wrong theory about the case. It all straightens out in the end.

Over candlelight dinner Roger Smith tells Jacqueline beer how much he'd like to get something going with her. But she's a smart girl and she says in no uncertain terms she wants a husband who works regular hours and not one whose work could get him killed. In fact it nearly does here.

Nice story and I love the part where Roger Smith has to take Edd Byrnes along to a beatnik coffeehouse in order to translate.

Typical detective flick
searchanddestroy-126 October 2015
Nothing much to say about this episode. Suzanne, the lead's employee in charge of the dispatching switchboard, has her brother missing. The only lead is the place where he seemed to have found a position as a chauffeur for a rich couple...

From there, nothing exceptional, you can get out and do some shopping for your next meal or let the electricity employee get the counter in the marks. Only for die hard detective routines, whom I am not at all. But, again and again, always this tremendous jazzy atmosphere. But I guess you'll get it for another nearly two hundred episodes. I hope the other stories from this series will not all be PURE detective stories. So far, they were not...So let's cross our fingers.
