The bet of 5 pat hands drawn from 25 dealt cards was used on the TV series Maverick with James Garner January 19, 1958 in the episode "Rope Of Cards". Brett referred to it as "Maverick Solitaire".
The Hoyle reference to Straight hands not being allowed in Stud Poker unless declared at the beginning of the game was used in the series Maverick with James Garner October 6, 1957 in the episode "According To Hoyle".
In yet another case of borrowing something from Maverick, the "cut the Ace of Spades" trick was previously used in Comstock Conspiracy (1957). Roy Huggins was the creator of both programs.
