Much to enjoy here, but Spellbinder lacked that one special ingredient.

I enjoyed this episode on many levels like the music was pretty awesome at capturing the victims' feelings of the respective illusion they were put under and the interplay between illusion and reality was one of many different ways the animators could've done it, but it was a fitting choise.

Terry also ends up taking some bad beatings here, and it is nice to see him in real peril. His and Bruce's interactions are interesting and entertaining as always. That's one charm which is consistent in Batman Beyond, but that leads me to the minor weakness in this episode and in the series in general.

Spellbinder is cool with his illusion power, but how it works isn't delved deeper into or explained in an engaging way. That was what made Shriek so great, because Terry inspects him and he then tells Terry how he creates his soundwaves before he discovers that Terry is a "spy". When Spellbinder hits Terry and Bruce discovers his odd bahavior he simply puts it like "that somehow went straight to your brain" or something like that and it's never revisited. A little lazy, I must admit.

The ending was a little abrubt, but Barbara Gordon's ending line hints at things are going to happen which is a nice touch.
