In DC Comics, the Spellbinder is Delbert Billings. Other than his surname, the Batman Beyond incarnation of Spellbinder has little in common with his namesake, appearing to take most of his inspiration from the Scarecrow and the Mad Hatter.
In the Batman Beyond tie-in comics, Spellbinder came close to finding out Batman's secret twice. The first time, in Batman Beyond #1, Bruce was forced to fight the mind controlled Terry in his old batsuit. On the second occasion, in Batman Beyond #7, Billings returned to Hill High in disguise because he suspected a student was Batman. He used his mind reading machine to give psychic profiles to students he believed might secretly be Batman.
The music playing when Jim and Lorraine are walking down the stairs is that same one playing when Bruce and Lois are dancing in Superman: The Animated Series' "World's Finest, Part I".
Terry borrows a jacket that once belonged to "D.G"., obviously meant to be Dick Grayson and also implying that Dick didn't bother to retrieve his belongings from Wayne Manor after he walked out on Batman, as depicted in The New Batman Adventures episode, Old Wounds.
This episode premiered on the same day as the series premiere of SpongeBob SquarePants on Nickelodeon.
