*****SPOILERS***** Vince Edwards as the serious take no BS and all business neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Casey shows his tender side here in dealing with an emotionally destroyed young woman Ellen Parker who just survived an car accident while suffering and epileptic seizure. When it was revealed that his wife is an epileptic and is in danger of losing the unborn child, which she later does, her husband George checks out on her leaving her alone and abandoned to her own means. Even Ellen's parents Frank & Ethel Dixon try to distance themselves from her by planning to put her away in a sanitarium for the rest of her life!
Dr. Casey trying to get Ellen to overcome her emotionally distressed condition goes out of his way to show her that being an epileptic isn't the end of the world for her. While doing this Dr. Casey, or just plain Ben as he likes to be called, has problems with one of his staff physicians Dr. Larry Powers who's trying to make it with that cutie pie of a nurse Donna Whitney while his patients, many on the brink of death, takes second place to her. Dr. Casey acting like a US Marine drill sergeant gets on Dr. Parker's case and after showing him the evil or stupidity of his ways finally straightens him out. Only after almost having Ellen die on his watch by not coming to her aid, he was busy treating another patient who's life was not in danger, in time.
****SPOILERS**** It was Dr. Casey showing poor Ellen that being an epileptic wasn't any reason for not wanting to live that finally brought her down to earth and back to reality. That by having Dr. Amy Paterson an epileptic herself as well as, like Ellen, artist talk to her about her problem that isn't as serious as she thinks it is and to stop felling sorry about herself and get back on her own two feet. Something that both Ellen's parents and her now checked out on her for good husband George didn't have the sense or understanding to tell her.
