When Dawes asks Nick his name, Nick retorts "What is your name." Though Dawes does identify himself to Nick, Nick never does identify himself to Dawes. Nick does identify himself to his two fellow prisoners, but they never divulge that information to Dawes. Yet when Dawes learns of Nick's escape, he says "Just tell the boys it's $100 to the man who kills Barkley."
The style of paper bag carried by Juliet Dawes in the first scene didn't appear until 1883, when Charles Stilwell patented a machine that made square-bottom paper bags with pleated sides. The canned food in the bag, removed by Ben Dawes, also is questionable, since the double-seam process used in most modern food cans didn't appear until 1904.
