Gurney Rhodes (Buddy Ebsen) is a feared gunfighter who rides into Latigo with Peck Martin (Richard Rust.) Gurney was a mentor once to Clay Culhane.
Gurney and Peck are hired help for mine owner Frank Everettes. He is in a dispute with father and son team of Ben and Lee Winkleman.
The dispute was near to be settled with the help of Clay Culhane. Now it is all near to be ruined. Gurney's presence spells trouble. Peck is a hotheaded young buck trained by Gurney who fancies himself to be the next hotshot.
