Paris awash in blood
ctomvelu18 April 2013
Warning: Spoilers
American architect Stephen Boyd runs afoul of modern-day terrorists in Paris, and in the process falls for a comely French student (LeMaire) who is part of the terrorist cell. Louis Jourdain is the head of the Paris cell, and in the course of events, two people are murdered by his people, one of them a close friend of the architect. The gal wants nothing to do with murder, and eventually this results in conflict between her and the cell leader. The use of back lot sets is a little too obvious, but Boyd and company keep things moving along. A couple of familiar character actors play supporting roles. The subject may or may not interest you, but the truth is France is in even worse shape today vis a vis terrorists and anarchists. So the episode remains timely.

Intrigue in Paris
searchanddestroy-12 April 2020
As a French myself, I can not not be interested by this story taking place in Paris and during Algerian War please, not just WW2, as we could expect from an American production. So few pictures were made about this period, especially by the French movie or TV industry. Yes, War in Algeria was hush hush and still is. I know, this story takes place not in Algeria, but in Paris. It is however question of OAS terrorist organization, a French criminal organization willing to kill General De Gaulle and preparing a coup to take power. The French atmosphere is of course observed, thru unavoidable accordion sound and Montmartre - Hollywood Montmartre though - settings. But this could have been made for WW2 instead with the very same ingredients: a romance between a handsome American and a beautiful French gal, with some spy intrigue, replacing German Gestapo agent with OAS members as the heavies. .But if you watch it in an overall point of view, there are not many surprises. Good ending.

Predates 'The Battle of Algiers'

Sydney Pollack tries his hand at a story of international intrigue and does a fine job with this segment of Bob Hope's Chrysler Theatre.

It's a tale of killings by agents of France's far-right OAS, related to the Algerian war of independence, and American in Paris Stephen Boyd is thrust into the conflict when he witnesses a murder and falls for a lovely French student (a juicy role for Monique LeMaire, who had a minor career on U. S. TV shows). She's working for the villain of the piece, Louis Jourdan, suave and hateful as the OAS boss that she reports to.

There's some style to the show, even though its Paris is located on the studio backlot. Pollack gets flavorful performances from his cast and the story's theme of ambivalence regarding terrorists and their tactics is still timely today.
