Filmed in 1968, this episode was originally scheduled to air during the 1968-1969 season. The show was pulled due to its violent content, particularly in the wake of national unrest over the Vietnam War and the deaths of presidential hopeful Robert Kennedy and civil rights activist Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The three-year delay in the broadcast of this episode also meant that David Canary's appearance in this episode was billed as a "special appearance" because at the time the episode aired he was not a regular on the series.
One of the few times Adam was mentioned by name after Pernell Roberts left the series.
Little Joe is shown being chased by German Shepard dogs. This dog wasn't first bred until 1899, well after the Bonanza episodes occur.
