Warning: Spoilers
I was fully prepared to roll my eyes and deem it another episode of a Cartwright going into heat and tbh it's still that kind of an episode if you've known somebody less than a week and you're already in love and making wedding plans.

I think what makes this episode interesting is the guest star. I believe she played a drunk later on down the line and I was impressed with her performance in that episode and she delivered in this episode as well. Edit: My mistake. A different actress plays the drunk in the other episode I mentioned.

There's one tidbit that confuses me and I'll touch base in it shortly. So Carol gets off the stage and she bumps into Hoss. Later on he brings her a hat box she left on the stage. She's a guarded person so she's being a bit short with Hoss instead of being friendly. He's friendly to her is why I word it that way. Later on Carol is seen at her mother's grave and she's sad about a lot of things. She hates her mother died alone. Hoss is out there as well and comforts her. Well, Hoss and Carol get to know each other. There's an uncomfortable dinner involving Hoss, Carol, Ben and Joe. This poor lady is scared to death of being tracked down for something involving her past and the Cartwrights playing 20 questions with her doesn't help ease her nerves.

It turns out Carol has killed her husband. It honestly sounded like self defense when Carol was telling what happened and it still sounded like self defense even when more details came out? So yeah, that's the part I don't understand. I realize some of the additional details might paint Carol in an unsympathetic light to a jury but I can also understand sometimes a person might not have a choice if their back is up against the wall. Carol was trading sex for money so she could get back to her mom. Again, sometimes it's a fact of life having to do something. If she had known people like the Cartwrights when all this was going down, she could've borrowed money and paid it back. But what do you do if you don't know somebody like that or you feel like you're the one that's gotta be the one to come up with the money since you were the one that left your mom alone to begin with? It sounds like the husband was violent towards this other man and Carol shot her husband through the heart twice.

Ben confronts Carol about destroying somebody you love (talking about Hoss). At first Carol is angry at Ben but look at the charade she put on for Hoss' benefit at the end. I think she did love Hoss and didn't want to destroy him. Carol's acting like she's drunk, only with Hoss for his money and sleeping around behind Hoss' back. So Carol's back where she started...alone.

It's an interesting episode but the self defense angle is what tripped me up about this episode.

Too Good to be True

Hoss falls in love with a girl with a dark past. Turns into convoluted soap opera. Geraldine Brooks isn't served well by this part. Hollywood cliches fill up bad script.
