Pretty good--about average for season one.

A small-time crook has earned the privilege for a special sort of work-release program. He leaves prison each day to attend classes at a nearby college and returns at night. However, instead of this being a perk, it's actually a serious problem as a gang leader in prison demands that the young man work for him as a courier. But the young man wants to go straight and make something of himself. What is he to do? Well, fortunately, when Cannon gets involved in the case, there is a chance that he can make a go of it on the outside.

Overall, this is a very average episode of "Cannon"--neither bad nor outstanding. This is not a complaint--just an observation. Decent writing and acting--there just isn't a lot to make this one stand out much either way. Worth seeing if you are already a fan of the series.

BE SURE TO SAY HELLO TO THE WARDEN???

One of, if not the most popular director of the 60s and 70s, Seymour Robbie, directed the season finale with his usual flair and style. Note the closeups and camera angles here, and nicely done. The moody music is especially effective.

Robbie was also directing the MOD SQUAD at this time. In the 80s he was behind MURDER SHE WROTE and REMINGTON STEELE. Should have written a book.

Some excellent performances here.

Popular actor Burr DeBennig co-stars as a young convict who runs into old crook Mitchell Ryan who has "plans" for him. Ryan was good at sinister types, and he's quite convincing here as a master gambler running operations from behind bars. The story is not new, but its very interesting as it all unfolds, and with some good on location work in North Hollywood. Karl Tunberg wrote this episode, famous for BEN HUR. He was also writing for MANNIX at this time.

Julie Gregg co-stars, who was about to gain international fame as Sandra Corleone in THE GODFATHER. On tv she was also cast in MISSION IMPOSSIBLE, possibly as a replacement for Barbara Bain. Good guy/bad guy Frank Marth (frequently on the series) plays the police. In the old timer department, look for 1940s teen star Jimmy Lydon (HENRY ALDRICH) as Carter and rugged Biff Elliott as a prison guard. Jimmy was a producer at Warner Brothers/ABC with William Conrad. Lloyd Gough plays the warden, always remembered as good guy Mike on the GREEN HORNET.

Last episode of SEASON 1, which meant a big Hollywood party in Cannon's green kitchen. Next, moving to a new time slot and into the TOP 10.

SEASON 1 EPISODE 24 remastered CBS/Paramount box set No. 2 of 2. Total 21 hours/8 dvds. 2008.
