Nothing like the love of a healthy, happy family....which you won't see here!
planktonrules15 April 2017
Judith Hobart (Dana Wynter) comes off as a highly cultured and very concerned aunt when she approaches Cannon to find her runaway niece. However, what Cannon doesn't know is that the girl ran away when she witnessed the aunt kill someone...and Aunt Judith is one malicious and dangerous woman...and her boyfriend is even worse! Can Cannon figure this out or will he just be delivering the girl to a certain death when he tries to return her?

All in all, a rather exciting episode and, like some of the better ones, not so fanciful and with a plot that seems like it could have occurred in real life. Well worth seeing.

WITH AN AUNTIE LIKE THIS...
tcchelsey2 June 2022
Another CLASSIC Cannon. 10 Plus Stars. 4th Season finale.

Popular husband and wife team Bob and Esther Mitchell wrote this exceptional episode, and without too much surprise, wrote for PERRY MASON.

Lovely Dana Wynter, who played victims in past episodes, is cast, and very convincingly, as one lethal lady. Wynter had just appeared on MEDICAL CENTER. The (censured) story is she achieved her business wealth and status by stealing from her clients. She hires Cannon to find her runaway niece (well played by Lee Purcell), but not because she's missing --- she saw her aunt kill a pesty blackmailer. About as good as it gets, and Dana Wynter is tops in this role. She should have gotten an Emmy nod.

This could have been a PERRY MASON episode that the Mitchells may have put aside many years earlier. It has that feel. This was a common practice among many writers. I believe some of the stories on the show were redone by writers Bill Conrad worked with at Warner Brothers ABC/tv in the 60s. There was a lot of rich material ready to be updated.

You know the crew was having fun; William Conrad does a solid stunt down a beach cliff, still showing he's a man for all seasons. Listen closely if there are any giggles? I am sure there was applause and a gracious bow after the director yelled cut. This probably was filmed at Malibu.

Great cast at work here. Alex Rocco is the perfect partner in crime, also playing a goofy drunk --OR IS HE? Watch carefully. Look for gritty Abe Vagoda, and veteran James Wainwright. Lee Purcell is spot on in her role, and you really feel sorry for her.

Is that an old rubber MISSION IMPOSSIBLE mask Alex Rocco is holding? Watch very carefully.

Edward Abroms directed, who handled many episodes for KOJAK and POLICE STORY. He was a good friend of Bill Conrad, later directing his next series NERO WOLF, and then JAKE AND THE FATMAN.

The big secret in Hollywood (that everyone knew) was the FATMAN resembled Frank Cannon in many ways. Let's hope METV runs the show some day.

Definitely a ratings grab as the fourth season comes to a close. SEASON 4 EPISODE 24 remastered color CBS dvd box set. Released 2016.

falls off the cliff in the last scene
steelblue552 June 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Amazed at the high ratings on this one. It was well above average and pretty good until the last big fight scene, which looked like it was staged by a 12 year old.

First off, how does Cannon know to jump out of the car and run full speed into the cabin? How does he know the villain is there at that point?

In the fight scene, the gun is going down and away as they wrestle but somehow the guy gets shot in the upper body? Then the bad guy misses the girl with two shots at about 6 to 8 feet and falls down? Then when cannon runs in the guy also has him at about 8 feet but instead of shooting Cannon, he decides to drop the gun and fall down because Cannon threw some plastic chess men at him?

Even if you say hey, it's action, and go with it up to this point, then the bad gun runs away. And Cannon shoots him with a snubnose revolver at maybe 4 or 500 feet, into a car, and kills the guy nearly instantly. The way he was hit would have had to go through the back windshield too. He could have stood on the hood of the car and made faces while Cannon shot over and over trying to even get close to hitting him at that distance...

A good episode ruined by a lazy and completely unbelievable ending.

Search and destroy

Cannon is hired to find a wealthy woman's runaway niece. But what he is not told is that the girl ran after she saw her aunt participate in a murder. An average episode made a little interesting by Dana Wynter's performance as a calculating aunt. Also Cannon shootout at the end is quite exciting. Otherwise, this is just ok and meanders at times.
