VOICE FROM THE GRAVE; NOT CREEPY, BUT GOOD
tcchelsey25 October 2022
Why we call CANNON cult 70s tv.

The fun guys behind the scenes cooked up a MANNIX type scenario. This one deals with an old Hollywood murder case that involves a retired cop (played by none other than Ford Rainey), getting Cannon into the mix and spelling a whole lot of trouble for both of them.

A steller cast at work here, you DO NOT want to miss. Well directed by William Wiard.

Prolific writer Robert Hamner wrote this story, the creator of SWAT. He worked with William Conrad at Warner Brothers/ABC cranking out lots of classic tv episodes.

It's sad to note that Ford Rainey's real son, who was a doctor, was murdered and the case to this day is unsolved. A real Hollywood mystery.

Top honors go to Madlyn Rhue, playing Gloria, one of the best actresses on tv for decades. Madlyn also worked for Bill Conrad, her old boss at Warner Brothers tv. She has a very dramatic role here and carries it across quite well. On the other side, burly Robert Webber guest stars again, this time playing a well dressed hitman, who spells trouble for Gloria.

The curious thing is that Webber makes it known who he is and Cannon should have put the cuffs on him ASAP. He had the opportunity. And even though Hamner was a very good writer, this is a valid talking point. It was also the same sort of deal MANNIX got himself into every now and then.

Series regular Jason Evers returns, a busy actor, playing both good guys and bad guys with style. For all of us DARK SHADOWS fans back in the day, it's great to see Dennis Patrick (as Owen Kendall). Virginia Gregg (from DRAGNET) also guest stars.

There's a Hollywood inside joke, especially if you know the area.

Kendall's office is located at 9000 Sunset Boulevard, but keep in mind this deals with a Hollywood nightclub. The famous WHISKEY A GO GO is located at 8901 Sunset. Very interesting coincidence?

SEASON 4 EPISODE 3 remastered color CBS dvd box set 2016. This is the box set with a pix of Cannon wearing a frown!

Another sloppy episode.

Season four of "Cannon" started off badly--with several episodes with serious plot problems and plot holes. This is the third in a row such episode.

An old friend of Cannon's is shot. The victim's daughter convinces Cannon to investigate and Cannon thinks perhaps an unsolved case from 14 years ago might be the reason why. How did he come up with this and so quickly? I have no idea. Soon, a hit-man (Robert Webber) introduced himself to Cannon--telling him he's been paid to watch him but will kill him as soon as the order is given. At this point, Cannon could shoot the guy or tell the cops or at least smash his face in...but he lets the guy go. Probably a good idea, as this cool and collected hit-man turns out to be amazingly ineffective! Cannon must have read this in the script. Now as to why the man was shot? Well, he worked on a case for 14 years...and I figured it all out before the episode ended. Overall, sloppy and rather stupid.
