Her self indulgent self
bkoganbing6 March 2016
Checkmate departs from its usual format of preventing crime upon the persons of its various clients for a more interesting task. It's Doug McClure who goes undercover at a movie studio at the behest of producer Russ Conway to protect Elizabeth Montgomery from herself.

This will be quite a revelation for those who remember Montgomery as Samantha Stevens America's favorite witch on Bewitched. This is a dark character, dark as the brunette hair she sports instead of the blond we know from Bewitched.

Montgomery is self indulgent and terribly insecure, suffering the problems that so many in that business have of never knowing who their friends are. How many of those flocking around just want something from her? Right now a pair of directors, newcomer Jack Lord and oldtimer Felix Genest both want her for their films. And both are willing to do anything to get her.

I'm sure the writers had any number of people in mind when Montgomery's character was created. Maybe you can figure out who.

One of the best and most original of the Checkmate series highlighted by Elizabeth Montgomery and her performance.
